Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 as separate digital purchases. Nintendo’s U.S. listings give a release date of February 27, 2026; Nintendo Australia listed February 28 for that market. Nintendo says there will be no physical Switch release.
What you can buy
These Switch releases bring back the 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes; they are not new remakes. Nintendo sells FireRed and LeafGreen separately as digital downloads. The games are digital-only, and Nintendo Support says no physical Switch version is planned. Buy through Nintendo eShop or the official Nintendo store for your region, and check that store for current price and availability.
The listed date depends on the market: the U.S. product page says February 27, 2026, while Nintendo Australia announced February 28, 2026, for Australia. Nintendo Canada’s February 20 announcement listed a suggested retail price of CAD $29.99 per game. That Canadian price is not a U.S. or worldwide price.
What is included in the Switch editions?
Nintendo says the games broadly retain the contents of their original releases, while noting that some specifications may differ. In Nintendo Support’s words: “Some specifications may differ, but broadly speaking, the contents of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are the same as in the games’ original release.”

#1 Best Overall
The official listings include the Sevii Islands and in-game events to encounter Lugia, Ho-Oh and Deoxys. Nintendo Australia describes the remakes as featuring the original 151 Pokémon. That description does not establish a full list of which Pokémon are exclusive to each edition.
FireRed or LeafGreen: how to choose
The two releases are separate editions, so choose based on which version you want rather than expecting a combined package. Consider your preferred game and its version-specific Pokémon or content; consult the selected edition’s official listing for details. Nintendo’s language editions are separate purchases, and there is no in-game language switch. Confirm both the language and the edition before paying, since availability can vary by market.

How multiplayer works
Trading, battling and a minigame are available through local wireless in the Pokémon Wireless Club. Nintendo Support says online play is not supported. The U.S. FireRed listing describes local wireless for two to five players; Nintendo Support explains that one player can connect with up to four others in the Union Rooms.
The Game Boy Advance versions used a Link Cable or Wireless Adapter for connectivity. On Switch and Switch 2, the games use built-in local wireless instead. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to buy or play them.

Switch and Switch 2 compatibility
Nintendo lists the games for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and says there are no major performance differences between the console versions. The U.S. FireRed listing supports TV, tabletop and handheld modes, and lists single-system play for one and local wireless for two to five players. Nintendo has not established specific frame-rate or load-time measurements in the information cited here.

Nintendo says Pokémon HOME transfers for these games begin in October 2026. Its product pages also describe a special Celebi Mystery Gift for completing that game’s Pokédex in HOME. The announcement gives a month, not an exact service-start date, so check Nintendo’s current information and HOME availability before assuming transfers or the reward are live.

Nintendo says the Mystery Gift feature takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours of play to unlock. It requires an internet connection and a linked Nintendo Account, but not Nintendo Switch Online.
