Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are available as separate digital purchases in Nintendo eShop. Nintendo lists February 27, 2026 as their release date. Neither game has a physical Switch release, and you do not need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to buy or play them. Before paying, check the language edition and price shown in your regional eShop.

Where to buy FireRed and LeafGreen

Open Nintendo eShop on your Switch or Switch 2 and search for the exact title: Pokémon FireRed Version or Pokémon LeafGreen Version. Select the edition you want, then check its language and the live price for your region before confirming the purchase. Nintendo’s US store lists the English FireRed edition, but a current price was not established; the amount displayed in your own eShop is the one to use. Nintendo’s US FireRed listing and Nintendo Support’s FAQ provide official product and availability information.

Which version and language should you choose?

FireRed or LeafGreen

These are separate purchases, so choose the version you want to play rather than expecting one purchase to include both. Nintendo’s support information describes the same broad play and connectivity model for both games; it does not establish a current price difference between them.

Check the language edition

In the Americas, Nintendo lists separate English, European French, and European Spanish editions. Confirm the language shown on the specific eShop listing before purchase, especially if you are browsing a regional storefront outside the United States. Nintendo’s US product listing identifies the English FireRed edition; Nintendo Support covers the regional editions.

Are there physical Switch copies?

No. Nintendo says the Switch versions are digital software and will not receive physical releases. A Game Boy Advance cartridge is a different platform version, not a physical copy of the Switch edition. These releases are also standalone purchases, not games included in the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics collection. Nintendo Support

Do you need Nintendo Switch Online?

No. Nintendo says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not needed to purchase or play either game. Nintendo Support

Can you trade or battle online?

No online play is supported. The games’ connectivity features use local wireless: Nintendo describes the Pokémon Wireless Club as supporting up to four other players. The store listing specifies local wireless play for two to five players, while single-system play is for one player. Nintendo Support and Nintendo’s US listing

Switch 2 support and play modes

Nintendo lists the games as supported on Nintendo Switch 2 with consistent behavior and says there are no major differences in how they perform on Switch 2 and Switch. The listing supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. Nintendo Support and Nintendo’s US listing

Pokémon HOME transfers: what Nintendo has announced

Nintendo’s US listing says transfers to Pokémon HOME are planned to start in October 2026 and mentions a special Celebi Mystery Gift for completing the FireRed Pokédex in HOME. The listing does not give a specific October activation date, so check the current HOME instructions for availability and transfer details. Nintendo’s US product listing

Sales figure, with its date and scope

Nintendo Co., Ltd. reported that FireRed and LeafGreen together exceeded 4 million global cumulative sell-through units during the first six weeks after their February 27, 2026 release. This is a combined figure for that initial six-week period, not a current sales total or separate count for each version. Nintendo investor relations
