Mega Dimension is the postgame story expansion for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and it introduced Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. The DLC story launched on December 10, 2025, and is available now. The two forms use different Mega Stones; players must finish the base game’s main story before progressing through the expansion.
What is Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension?
Mega Dimension is additional story content for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Set after the base game’s main story, it follows Team MZ as the group investigates spatial distortions appearing around Lumiose City. Hoopa helps them enter Hyperspace Lumiose, an otherworldly version of the city reached through portals formed from those distortions.
The expansion was announced for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Its story content was released on December 10, 2025, and the official DLC page now lists it as available. See the official Mega Dimension DLC page.
How are Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y different?
The official DLC page confirms one distinction: “These two Mega Evolutions of Raichu each Mega Evolve using a different Mega Stone.” The announcement identifies them as Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y.

The official pages cited here do not specify differences in the forms’ stats, types, abilities, or battle performance, so those details should not be inferred from the X and Y names.
Do you need to finish the main game first?
Yes. Players must complete the main story of Pokémon Legends: Z-A to progress through Mega Dimension’s story. This is a postgame expansion, not a parallel campaign available before the base-game ending.

What can players encounter in the expansion?
The launch notice names Hoopa, Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho, and Mega Baxcalibur among the new and familiar Pokémon players can encounter. The story centers on the distortions around Lumiose City and the journey into Hyperspace Lumiose.

The DLC is offered digitally through its official page. The official buy page lists Pokémon Legends: Z-A and its Switch 2 Edition through Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo Store, and participating retailers. Availability and listings can vary by region, so check the relevant store for current details.

A separate physical bundle, Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension, is scheduled for October 29, 2026. The US Pokémon announcement says it will include the Switch 2 Edition and the DLC on one game card. That date is still in the future as of October 8, 2026. Existing owners of the Switch 2 Edition can buy Mega Dimension separately instead of purchasing the bundle.
The Switch 2 Edition can also be played on the original Nintendo Switch, but Switch 2-specific features are not included when played on that system. Read the official bundle announcement.
