“A Hero’s Journey” is a six-step, branching Special Research tied to Pokémon GO Fest 2025: Global. The Sword path is for trainers pursuing Crowned Sword Zacian; the Shield path is for those pursuing Crowned Shield Zamazenta. Most steps are shared, but the branches change type-specific tasks and the Candy and Crowned Energy you earn. The research was event-exclusive and ticket-holder content, so historical quest details do not confirm that it is claimable or unfinished on any particular account today.

| Path | Target form | Branch-specific type tasks | Matching resources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sword | Crowned Sword Zacian | Fairy-type Pokémon | Zacian Candy and Crowned Sword Energy |
| Shield | Crowned Shield Zamazenta | Fighting-type Pokémon on the buddy task; Steel-type Pokémon on the catch and power-up tasks | Zamazenta Candy and Crowned Shield Energy |
If you are undecided, consider which Pokémon you want to collect or build and whether the branch’s type tasks fit the Pokémon you can use. The available task information does not establish a universal competitive advantage for either choice, and it does not show that selecting one branch permanently excludes the other Pokémon across all game modes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How much Crowned Energy does each form need?
The first transformation of a Zacian requires 1,000 Crowned Sword Energy and the Charged Attack Iron Head. Zamazenta’s first transformation requires 1,000 Crowned Shield Energy and Iron Head. Once you have changed an individual Pokémon’s form, you can change that same Pokémon’s form again without spending energy. These requirements are stated in the official Pokémon GO announcement.
During transformation, Iron Head changes to Behemoth Blade for Crowned Sword Zacian and Behemoth Bash for Crowned Shield Zamazenta. Both Crowned forms can join Max Battles, although they cannot Dynamax or Gigantamax. The Pokémon GO team’s Max Battles announcement confirms this unusual exception.

What the signature attacks do
Each move can be activated as an Adventure Effect, but they provide different temporary benefits in raids and Max Battles:
| Move | Pokémon | Effect | Cost and duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Behemoth Blade | Crowned Sword Zacian | Temporarily strengthens attacks. | 5,000 Stardust and five matching Candy; six minutes. |
| Behemoth Bash | Crowned Shield Zamazenta | Temporarily strengthens defense. | 5,000 Stardust and five matching Candy; six minutes. |
The effects, costs, and duration are described in Pokémon GO’s Adventure Effects announcement.
