When was Pokémon GO Fest 2024 in Sendai?
The four-day event ran from May 30 through June 2, 2024, according to the City of Sendai’s May 15, 2024 announcement. This is a retrospective guide, not a notice of a current event or ticket sale.

Where was Pokémon GO Fest Sendai?
Nanakita Park was the main venue, but the event was not limited to the park. Niantic’s July 2024 impact study describes gameplay across Sendai and at Nanakita Park. That park-and-city setup made it possible to combine venue play with exploration around the wider city.
In its study, Niantic reported 379,000 players in Sendai, including 68,000 at Nanakita Park, and an average of 28 km walked per trainer. These are figures reported by Niantic’s study, not independent attendance counts. Its economic-impact estimates also use survey responses, Statista 2024 data, extrapolation, and economic modeling: it estimated ¥7,395.5 million in total impact, comprising ¥4,241.6 million direct, ¥2,372.5 million indirect, and ¥781.5 million induced impact. The total is a modeled estimate, not simply a tally of attendee purchases. The report also estimated ¥2,796 million in tax revenue and 748 jobs measured as full-time equivalents. What could visitors explore beyond Nanakita Park?
Sendai announced ten official Pokémon GO routes developed with the city’s cooperation to connect gameplay with local food, scenery, and history. The destinations named in the city’s announcements included:
- Sendai Station and central shopping streets
- Sendai Castle ruins and the Hirose River
- Coastal parks
- Akiu Onsen and Sakunami Onsen hot-spring districts

What city activations were part of the 2024 event?
Sendai and Niantic documented several temporary civic and shopping-street activities. These details describe what was offered in 2024; they are not current trip instructions.
- Transit collaboration: The city listed an event-themed Loople Sendai and subway day pass, plus 24-hour and 36-hour subway tickets. The historical 2024 fares were ¥920/¥460 for adults/children for the day pass, ¥500/¥250 for the 24-hour ticket, and ¥700/¥350 for the 36-hour ticket. The city also said it would increase Nanboku Line service during the event dates.
- Shopping campaign: At 61 downtown stores, eligible players who showed their game screen could receive one limited-edition sticker while supplies lasted.
- Pikachu sun visors: Two shopping streets distributed free visors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during May 30–June 2, 2024.

Niantic’s reported average of 28 km walked per trainer is a useful indication of the event’s scale, though an individual’s distance would depend on their route and activities. For a future day combining walking with mobile gameplay, comfortable walking shoes and a charged portable power bank are sensible general preparations, not event-specific requirements or tested product recommendations.
