What is Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is an adventure set in Lumiose City. The official Pokémon overview describes the premise this way: “The story is set in Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon.” The city’s transformation provides the setting for exploration and battles.

In its launch announcement, Pokémon describes the player’s journey as exploring Lumiose City, learning to use Mega Evolution in battle, and climbing the ranks of the Z-A Royale. Those are the game’s central hooks: an urban setting, Pokémon battles, and Mega Evolution.
When did Pokémon Legends: Z-A come out?
The game released on October 16, 2025. Physical and digital copies are available, and Nintendo lists both the Nintendo Switch version and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition through Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo Store, and participating retailers.

What does Mega Dimension add?
Mega Dimension is additional story content that takes place after the main story. Strange hyperspace distortions appear around Lumiose City, prompting the player and Team MZ to investigate. Hoopa helps them enter hyperspace, where they encounter new and familiar Pokémon.

The expansion’s featured Pokémon include Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho, and Mega Baxcalibur. You must complete the main story before you can play Mega Dimension’s story. If you already own the Switch 2 Edition, the DLC can be purchased separately.
When does the combined Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension bundle release?
Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension is scheduled for October 29, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, it is still upcoming. Pokémon says the bundle includes both products on one game card and contains the same game content as buying the Switch 2 Edition and DLC separately.

Mewtwo and Mystery Gift
A December 2025 official notice described how to receive Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y through Mystery Gift and access an additional Mewtwo side mission after completing the main story. That notice estimated about one hour of play before Mystery Gift becomes available and said an internet connection and linked Nintendo Account are required. Because these are dated distribution instructions, check the game’s current notices to confirm they still apply.
Ranked Battles
A September 2025 announcement identified Mega Stones for Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, and Mega Greninja as Ranked Battles promotion rewards. The announcement says online features require a Nintendo Account and Nintendo Switch Online membership. Ranked Battle seasons and rewards can change, so consult current in-game news for active details.
