Images posted on Reddit showed cards and sealed packs from Pokémon TCG’s Black Bolt and White Flare before their English release, according to an Insider Gaming report published May 19, 2025. The report described ex cards, an Illustration Rare and a returning reverse-holo Poké Ball design. It did not identify the leak’s source, and the images’ provenance was not independently established in the reporting.
What the Black Bolt and White Flare leak showed
Insider Gaming’s Josh Challies reported that Reddit images showed several cards alongside sealed booster packs. The article identified ex cards and an Illustration Rare among the cards pictured, and said the images indicated that a reverse-holo Poké Ball design was returning. These are observations attributed to the report, not independently authenticated details about the images or their origin.
The report said the source of the images had not been shared. It therefore does not establish whether the material came from a shop, distributor, employee or another point in the supply chain. The article also raised concern about shortages and inflated prices, but offered no quantified market evidence for either outcome. Insider Gaming’s May 19 report is the source for those leak details.
Why “two months before release” means the English launch
The headline’s timing refers to the English product rollout, not the Japanese launch. The leak report appeared on May 19, 2025, about two months before the first English products were listed for July 18. In Japan, both expansions were scheduled to release earlier, on June 6.

| Additional English products | August 1 and August 22, 2025 | Later product dates listed in PokéBeach’s English guide. |
The dates distinguish the Japanese set launch from the English-language products; they are not competing dates for one global release. PokéBeach’s May 6, 2025 English reveal and product guide lists the English rollout. The sources cited here do not establish a Pokémon TCG Live release date, so the physical product dates should not be read as digital-launch dates.
What the paired expansions are about
Black Bolt and White Flare are paired Unova-themed expansions. The official Japanese product page says all 156 Pokémon discovered in Unova appear across the two sets, with a special illustration card for each Pokémon. It highlights Zekrom ex and Reshiram ex as BWR rarity cards. The English product guide similarly describes each Unova Pokémon as receiving an Illustration Rare or Special Illustration Rare.

The Japanese page lists regular seven-card packs and 35-card deluxe packs, with cards randomly inserted in both formats. Those are Japanese product details; they should not be assumed to describe the English products. See the official Japanese Black Bolt and White Flare page.
