Sony’s current disclosure supports a large, growing PlayStation audience and a qualitative statement about tier adoption—not a quantified subscriber rebound.
What Sony’s 125 million figure measures
Sony reported 125 million PlayStation monthly active users in June 2026, up 2% year over year and a record for June. Sony defines MAUs as an estimated number of unique accounts that played games or used online services on PlayStation during the quarter’s final month. The figure is based on company research and may be updated. Sony’s FY2026 Q1 presentation gives the June comparison, while Sony Interactive Entertainment’s business data page lists 125 million as of June 30, 2026 and describes it as an estimate based on SIE research.

That is a measure of platform activity, not a count of PlayStation Plus subscriptions. An account can be active without being a paid PS Plus member, so MAU cannot be used as a substitute for the service’s subscriber total.
What Sony has said about PlayStation Plus
Sony’s 2025 corporate report describes PlayStation Plus as “a proven and profitable online game subscription service” and says curated experiences and features have led to “increased adoption of higher-tier memberships.” The report makes a qualitative claim about the mix of memberships; it does not give a current subscriber count or a percentage increase.

In other words, Sony has said that more members are adopting higher tiers, but that statement alone does not establish that the total number of paid subscribers has recovered. A shift toward higher tiers and growth in the number of subscribers are different trends.

The dates and measures matter: these figures describe active PlayStation accounts in different periods. Neither supplies a direct year-over-year series for paid PS Plus membership.

Does Sony currently publish a PS Plus subscriber total?
The current Sony materials reviewed here report MAU and platform engagement, and the corporate report comments on higher-tier adoption. They do not establish a latest PS Plus subscriber total. Sony’s FY2026 Q1 results are for the quarter ended June 30, 2026; the business data page also reports MAU and software sales. These sources therefore do not answer how many PS Plus members Sony has now or whether the total is rising. Sony’s earnings materials and investor-relations library are the relevant places to look for any separately published subscriber series.
Sony’s earnings archive lists its FY2025 Q1 announcement on August 7, 2025. That date is distinct from the later June 2026 MAU reporting and should not be mistaken for the reference date of the latest activity figure. Sony’s earnings archive provides the results materials.

So, are PlayStation Plus numbers recovering?
It depends on which number “recovering” means. Sony’s statements support increased adoption of higher-tier PS Plus memberships, but they do not quantify a recovery in total paid subscribers. Separately, PlayStation MAU reached 125 million in June 2026, up 2% year over year. That is evidence of growth in platform activity—not proof that PS Plus subscriber numbers have rebounded.
