Pokémon Sword and Shield have 100 Technical Machines, numbered TM00–TM99. Use the checklist below to find each one; some are bought, while others are pickups, gifts, or rewards. TMs can be used repeatedly, unlike single-use Technical Records (TRs).

The complete TM-by-TM location list is available in Smogon University’s guide to all 100 TMs. It gives the specific place, NPC, purchase point, or reward for each entry, including differences between Sword and Shield. Use the numbered index below to jump to the TM you need.

All TMs in Pokémon Sword and Shield

Smogon’s guide is organized from TM00 through TM99. Open it for the exact acquisition details for the corresponding number:

Examples of the directions covered by location guides include TM15 Dig on Route 6, TM16 Screech from a Circhester hotel resident, and TM17–TM19 for sale at the western Pokémon Center in Motostoke. TM20 Self-Destruct is sold at Wyndon’s Battle Tower; TM22 Rock Slide is on Route 9 and requires the bike’s water-travel feature; TM36 Whirlpool is a Hulbury Gym reward. TM42 has different acquisition methods in Sword and Shield, so check the entry for your game version.

How to use this TM list

  • Search by number or move: the list uses each TM’s code and move name, so either is a useful lookup term.
  • Check version-specific instructions: where a location guide identifies a Sword-versus-Shield difference, follow the method for the version you own.
  • Distinguish TMs from TRs: TMs are reusable; TRs are single-use and are a separate item catalogue. Pokémon Database lists 100 of each, numbered TM00–TM99 and TR00–TR99: TM and TR mechanics and lists.

Can you collect TMs after finishing the story?

A secondary location guide reports that TM locations are not missable, so you can continue collecting after the main story. Treat this as a guide-reported note rather than an official guarantee. The official Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield page identifies the games as Nintendo Switch titles.
