Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo get a Koraidon or Miraidon you can trade, finish the main story, then return to the bottom of Area Zero after the credits and catch the second Legendary waiting there. Scarlet’s extra catch is Koraidon; Violet’s is Miraidon. The first one you ride during the story cannot be traded.
How to catch the second Koraidon or Miraidon
- Complete the three main story paths: earn the Gym Badges, defeat the Team Star bases, and defeat the Titan Pokémon.
- Finish the main storyline by entering the crater at the center of the map and completing the events there.
- After the credits, return to the bottom of Area Zero, near the large crystals.
- Approach the second Koraidon or Miraidon waiting on an incline to start the encounter.
- Weaken it without knocking it out, then throw Poké Balls until you catch it. Rebecca Spear’s iMore guide describes the encounter as Level 72 and suggests Ultra Balls or a Master Ball.
The story companion is not the one to exchange. Keep the second one you catch as your trade candidate. The game-version pairing is confirmed on the official Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet site; the catch sequence is detailed in iMore’s guide, published November 30, 2022.
Which version gives you each Legendary?
| Game | Tradeable post-game catch | Other version’s Legendary |
|---|---|---|
| Pokémon Scarlet | Koraidon | Miraidon |
| Pokémon Violet | Miraidon | Koraidon |
To get the opposite version’s Legendary, trade with someone playing the other game. The version pairings are listed on the official Pokémon game site.
How to trade through Poké Portal
- Open the in-game menu and select Poké Portal.
- Select Link Trade.
- Both players enter the same 8-digit Link Code, then begin searching.
- When the trade menu appears, choose the Pokémon you want to offer and inspect the other player’s Pokémon.
- Accept only when the Pokémon shown is the one you agreed to exchange for; each player confirms by selecting Trade it.
Nintendo says Poké Portal becomes available after you reach the first Pokémon Center in Los Platos. Its Link Trade instructions for Pokémon Scarlet also cover trading through a Union Circle group.

Online or nearby trading
For an internet Link Trade, Nintendo lists a Nintendo Switch console, an internet connection, updated game software, and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership among the requirements. To trade with someone nearby, choose local communication instead of internet communication; a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not needed for local trading. See Nintendo Support’s Link Trade instructions for the setup details.
Because Koraidon and Miraidon are valuable version mascots, agree on the exchange beforehand and check the offered Pokémon on the confirmation screen before accepting. A trusted friend is a sensible trading partner for this exchange.
