Stakataka is doubly weak to Fighting- and Ground-type attacks, making those the best places to start when building a raid team; Water is also super effective. Plan for roughly 3–5 high-level trainers, with more if your teams are not well powered up or coordinated. After the win, expect 1799–1882 CP at level 20 without a weather boost, or 2249–2353 CP at level 25 with a Partly Cloudy or Snow boost. Shiny Stakataka is reported as available, but no encounter rate is established.

Stakataka’s weaknesses and raid strategy

Stakataka is a Rock- and Steel-type Ultra Beast. Fighting and Ground attacks exploit its double weakness, while Water attacks are also super effective. Prioritize Pokémon with strong moves of those types rather than choosing a team solely for its species names or a ranking position.

The Pokémon GO Help Center advises: “To maximize your damage output, choose Pokémon with attacks that are super effective against the Raid Boss’ type(s).” It also recommends dodging charged attacks and notes that Mega-Evolved Pokémon can provide bonuses. Pokémon GO Help Center raid guidance.

Best Stakataka counters

Pokémon GO Hub’s June 2026 guide highlights these options and moves. Rankings vary with simulation assumptions and available moves, so treat them as a starting point, not a guaranteed universal order.

Counter Fast move Charged move
Mega Lucario Force Palm Aura Sphere
Mega Blaziken Counter Aura Sphere
Resolute Keldeo Low Kick Secret Sword
Primal Groudon Mud Shot Precipice Blades

A separate Pokémon GO Hub counter database can show a different ordering: its search result displayed Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Lucario at the top under another configuration. Its Time to Win and faint estimates are simulator outputs, not field guarantees; assumptions can omit factors such as Friendship and Mega damage bonuses. Use the Pokémon you can power up and equip with suitable moves.

Stakataka can use Rock Throw or Take Down as fast moves, and Stone Edge, Flash Cannon, or Bulldoze as charged moves. These options make survivability and dodging relevant, but the available information does not establish one defensive lineup as best.

How many trainers do you need?

Pokémon GO Hub recommends 3–5 high-level trainers, while a separate Hub counter page gives a suggested range of 2–5. These are planning estimates, not a promise that a particular group will win. Counter levels, move choices, weather, and team coordination all affect the result. Bring more trainers if your available teams are not optimized.

Encounter conditions Reported CP range
Level 20, no weather boost 1799–1882 CP
Level 25, Partly Cloudy or Snow weather boost 2249–2353 CP

The top of either range is the perfect-IV, or “100%,” CP for the stated conditions: 1882 CP without a weather boost and 2353 CP with the specified boost. The ranges are the guide’s game values, not a separately published population statistic.

Can Stakataka be shiny?

Pokémon GO Hub reports that shiny Stakataka is available. Niantic notes that raid-boss encounters are among the possible ways to encounter a shiny Pokémon and points players to official event updates for availability. Neither source establishes a Stakataka shiny rate, so a raid win does not guarantee a shiny encounter.

Is Stakataka in raids now?

Stakataka debuted in five-star raids in the Eastern Hemisphere during Ultra Space Wonders, May 23–28, 2024 local time; Blacephalon appeared in Western Hemisphere raids at that launch. That announcement documents the 2024 debut only, not the current rotation. Check the in-game raid map and official Pokémon GO event updates before traveling or using a raid pass.

What to do if the raid gets difficult

  1. Build around Fighting- and Ground-type attacks; use Water attackers where they fit your roster.
  2. Watch for Stakataka’s charged attacks and dodge when needed to keep damage dealers in the battle.
  3. If your party faints, rejoin while the raid timer is still running. Niantic says a player can re-enter a failed raid without using another pass while time remains.
