At the time, it arrived just two days after The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered became available, putting two very different RPGs in the same Game Pass discovery window.
Did Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reviews leak?
Review coverage appeared ahead of the April 24, 2025 release. Metacritic’s critic-review page included positive reviews dated April 23, and GameSpot reported that reviews had dropped before launch. That supports saying reviews appeared early; it does not establish a security breach, identify a leaker, or explain how the material became visible. Metacritic’s critic-review page and GameSpot’s launch-period review coverage document the reception and timing.

GameSpot reported a cross-platform Metascore of 92 during its April 2025 coverage. That is a dated launch-period snapshot, not a claim about the score today; aggregator scores and review counts can change. In GameSpot’s review, Richard Wakeling described the game as “a supremely confident game that reinterprets familiar mechanics with an imaginative eye,” praising combat’s blend of strategy and reactive action.
When did Expedition 33 launch, and was it on Game Pass?
Xbox announced Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for April 24, 2025, on Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S, and listed it as a day-one release for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Those details describe the launch-period offer; they do not establish whether the game remains in the catalog today. See Xbox Wire’s launch announcement for the platform and subscription information.

Why was Oblivion Remastered a close Game Pass comparison?
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was announced as available on April 22, 2025, two days before Expedition 33 launched. Bethesda also made it available through Game Pass, so subscribers encountered both games in the same release window. The timing made them competitors for players’ attention, not substitutes for the same kind of RPG. Bethesda’s announcement describes the remaster’s availability.
How do the two RPGs differ?
| What to compare | Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 | Oblivion Remastered |
|---|---|---|
| Combat | Turn-based decisions combined with real-time defensive and action mechanics, according to Xbox. | An updated presentation of the original open-world RPG; the cited launch announcement does not specify a comparable combat redesign. |
| World and structure | A new fantasy world inspired by Belle Époque France. | An open world rooted in the original Oblivion. |
| What is new | A new RPG from Sandfall Interactive. | A remaster of the 2006 game, with updated visuals and system refinements. |
Xbox presents Expedition 33 as a turn-based RPG with real-time mechanics and a Belle Époque-inspired setting in its launch announcement. Bethesda characterizes Oblivion Remastered as an updated version of the original. At launch, Bethesda said: “We never wanted to remake it – but remaster it – where the original game was there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology.” The statement appears in its official announcement.

Choose based on the experience you want: a new, turn-based adventure with reactive combat, or a return to Oblivion‘s open world with refreshed presentation. The review score and shared subscription availability can help explain the launch-week attention, but neither makes the games interchangeable.
