What Reddit users have reported
In a July 2026 Reddit thread, one Switch 2 owner described a Joy-Con 2 disconnecting from the console with light pressure. Commenters suggested checking the gold contacts and updating the controller software. The original poster said cleaning seemed to help temporarily, but the problem returned. That account is anecdotal: it does not establish a diagnosis or a reliable repair.
An October 2026 Reddit post described random Joy-Con disconnections in handheld mode; its author said the contact pins had been cleaned and current updates installed. The different experiences illustrate why cleaning contacts cannot be treated as a confirmed fix. Neither post establishes the cause, whether the same fault is involved, or how frequently it occurs.
What is—and is not—established
Nintendo’s troubleshooting index lists separate guidance for Joy-Con 2 controllers that are not recognized or do not register while attached, and for controllers that repeatedly connect and disconnect. That is evidence Nintendo provides troubleshooting for these symptoms, not confirmation of a specific contact defect. Nintendo says Joy-Con 2 controllers are compatible only with Nintendo Switch 2: Nintendo Switch 2 information.

No named prevalence statistic for this alleged contact issue is established by the available sources. Reddit reports cannot show that the problem is widespread, and they do not establish a Switch 2 design flaw or a particular failure rate.
What to try before requesting service
Start with Nintendo’s official directions for the symptom you actually see. For repeated disconnections, Nintendo’s guidance asks users to check the circumstances of the problem, including whether it occurs in docked or undocked play, the HDMI cable during docked testing, possible wireless interference, and whether another Joy-Con 2 behaves similarly. Follow the current instructions on Nintendo Support, since steps and service processes can vary by region.

For controllers that are not recognized or do not register while attached, use Nintendo’s specific troubleshooting article rather than assuming the issue is a dirty or defective contact: Joy-Con 2 not recognized or registering while attached.
- One controller, attached use: Note whether the symptom occurs only while the Joy-Con 2 is attached and follow Nintendo’s attachment-recognition guidance.
- One controller, repeated connection or disconnection: Work through the applicable Nintendo checks and note whether the behavior changes between docked and undocked play.
- More than one controller: Nintendo’s guidance includes checking whether another Joy-Con 2 shows the same behavior. A multi-controller symptom is not proof that the console is at fault, but it is useful information to provide to support.
These checks can help distinguish when the symptom occurs; they do not diagnose a specific console or controller. Do not rely on cleaning contacts as a verified solution: in the July report the apparent improvement did not last, and another October report described disconnections despite cleaning.

When to contact Nintendo
If the symptom continues after the relevant troubleshooting, Nintendo directs users toward service for persistent controller-specific or multi-controller problems. Contact Nintendo Support for your region and follow its current repair instructions. The reports on Reddit alone cannot determine whether Nintendo would repair a particular controller, console, or both; support will need to assess the circumstances and applicable service options.

Nintendo documents the separately sold Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip as an optional way to charge and pair the controllers: Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip. It is not documented as a repair for an attachment-contact problem. Likewise, buying a spare Joy-Con 2 is not a confirmed fix: Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance allows for the possibility that persistent problems involving a controller or multiple controllers may need service.
