Its appeal rests on tightly linked exploration, precision platforming, combat, puzzles, bosses, and time-manipulation abilities. Ubisoft’s documented accessibility options also let players adjust several combat and hazard settings, while map tools help track routes worth revisiting.
What kind of game is The Lost Crown?

This is a side-scrolling, 2.5D action-adventure built around Metroidvania exploration—not a new entry in the series’ older 3D action style. Ubisoft’s development feature says the team chose the format to combine exploration, puzzles, and combat with its experience making side-scrolling platform games. The result asks players to learn interconnected terrain as well as enemies: new abilities and discoveries can change which routes are accessible.
What do reviews praise?
The critic excerpts indexed by Metacritic point to a positive pattern around platforming, combat, progression, exploration, and the game’s Metroidvania structure. The page includes reviews dated January 11, 2024, from outlets including Game Informer and PlaySense, and a February 2 review from Dexerto. These are examples of published criticism, not a complete measure of opinion or a current platform-specific aggregate score.
#1 Best Overall
Those strengths work together: traversal is not merely the connective tissue between fights, and combat is not isolated from exploration. The game’s time powers support both movement and encounters, while bosses and hazards test timing and control. Players considering it should expect a game where careful observation, route-finding, and repeated attempts are part of the intended challenge.
How challenging is it, and what can players adjust?
Ubisoft describes the game as challenging, but its accessibility feature article, published January 19, 2024 and updated August 28, 2024, documents options to tune the experience. Four difficulty presets show which parameters they affect, and those parameters can be changed at any time. Individual settings include enemy health and damage, environmental hazard damage, parry timing, dodge windows, Athra charge and depletion, melee targeting assistance, and aim assistance.

The same article lists control remapping for gamepad and keyboard, stick swapping and inversion, vibration adjustment, keyboard/mouse and gamepad support on PC, and no quick-time events. Button-mashing sequences can be auto-completed; a practice area, tutorials, and a multidirectional parry option are also documented. Ubisoft notes that some features were added in an update, so exact availability can depend on the game build.
How does the game handle navigation?
Metroidvanias can be demanding when a player must remember every blocked passage and unfinished route. Ubisoft’s accessibility article describes two tools aimed at that problem: guided mode, which shows objectives and whether paths are blocked or available, and the Eye of the Wanderer, which lets players take a screenshot and pin it to the map as a visual reminder. These supports can make exploration easier to manage without removing the central act of finding and revisiting routes.

Which platforms and editions are documented?
Ubisoft’s launch-platform information includes PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Amazon Luna. Its US store listing identifies digital versions for PC, PS4/PS5, Switch, and Xbox. Store availability can vary by region and over time; check the relevant platform’s current listing before buying.
Ubisoft also describes a Complete Edition containing the base game and the Mask of Darkness story DLC, along with Sargon outfits, the Prosperity Bird Amulet, and a digital adventure guide. The official page’s feature sections disagree about whether the edition includes three or four outfits, so the count is not reliable without checking the current regional listing. Ubisoft estimates the DLC quest at four to six hours; that is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently measured playtime figure.
Who is The Lost Crown best suited to?
- Try it if: you enjoy Metroidvanias built around connected exploration, demanding platforming, boss fights, and learning combat patterns.
- Consider the settings if: enemy damage, hazards, parry timing, or navigation friction might otherwise keep you from enjoying the game. Ubisoft documents options for adjusting several of these areas.
- Look elsewhere if: you specifically want the series’ older 3D action format, or prefer a game that does not ask you to retrace routes and master precise movement.
As a review takeaway, The Lost Crown is best understood as a confident genre shift: its critical strengths lie in how platforming, combat, and exploration reinforce one another, while adjustable settings and map aids provide ways to tailor some of the challenge.
