Check each fitting’s port direction as you build, and test the route before changing more than the first section that fails.
Plan the route before placing pipes
Treat the simulation as an endpoint-routing puzzle. Identify every source and destination, then decide whether the layout needs one main route with branches or separate lines that join later. Keeping that plan visible makes it easier to see whether each fitting is doing the right job.
- Mark the endpoints: locate all sources and destinations on the board.
- Choose the flow pattern: decide which destinations receive a branch and which sources need to merge.
- Place special fittings first: plan bridges at crossings, splitters where one line must branch, and convergers where separate source lines must join.
- Fill in the pipe runs: connect the endpoints and fittings with simple, direct segments where practical.
This sequence follows the routing method described in the NerdsChalk Pipe Logistics Simulation walkthrough, updated January 28, 2026. It is a guide-based method, not an official rules reference.
Use the right fitting for each flow problem
Crossing lines: bridge
When two routes need to cross, use a bridge rather than letting the lines overlap as though they were connected. Confirm the bridge is oriented for the route you intend to carry through it; a crossing that looks correct visually can still fail if the piece or adjacent pipe is misaligned.

One source to multiple destinations: splitter
Start each branch at an output of a splitter. Route the outputs to their intended destinations, keeping the branches distinct and easy to follow. A line that merely passes near another route is not a substitute for an intentional split.
Several sources into one route: converger
Route each source to a separate input on the converger, then connect its output to the next pipe run or destination. For a merge, do not try to feed several sources into an ordinary segment and assume it will combine their flows.

Clean Water example: pools to the Fluid Tank
A gameplay-video description gives a Clean Water objective: move water from both pools through the existing Pipe Converger and into the Fluid Tank. It also mentions a bonus objective involving another destination. The description does not provide a tile-by-tile layout, so it supports the flow plan—not a claim about exact grid positions.
- Identify both Clean Water pools, the existing Pipe Converger, and the Fluid Tank.
- Connect each pool to a separate converger input.
- Connect the converger output to the Fluid Tank.
- If pursuing the bonus objective, identify its destination and plan a branch only if the board and objective call for one; use a splitter for that branch.
- Run the simulation and check where flow first stops or validation fails.

Why a route that looks connected can fail
- Wrong fitting orientation: inspect the input and output directions, then check the pipe pieces immediately beside those ports.
- Mis-snapped segment: remove and rebuild the short segment next to the fitting instead of reworking the entire route.
- Flow stops at a crossing: verify that the crossing uses a bridge and that its direction matches the intended path.
- Only one destination receives flow: check that the branch starts from a splitter output and that both outputs reach their destinations.
- A merge fails or backs up: confirm that sources enter separate converger inputs and that the converger output continues onward.
The walkthrough also mentions a control or restriction piece conditionally; it does not establish that this piece appears in every simulation. Check the board and objective before treating it as a required part of a route.

- Run the simulation and find the first point where flow stops or the validation fails.
- Inspect the nearest fitting and the tiles immediately around its ports.
- Check whether the fitting is the correct type for the job and whether its input and output directions match the route.
- Rebuild only the adjacent pipe segments, then run the simulation again.
Simple, inspectable runs make these checks faster. Avoid unnecessary weaving: the clearer the path, the easier it is to distinguish a wrong fitting connection from a problem farther along the line.
