Its current availability and map data could not be verified, so use it as a possible starting point—not as a confirmed, up-to-date encounter list. For any target, check the Wild Area sub-area, weather, game version, encounter method, and whether your story progress lets you catch it.
What the Wild Area map covers
The Wild Area is a large region of Galar in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, connecting several towns and cities. Pokémon appearances change according to both the part of the Wild Area you visit and the weather. The official Pokémon Wild Area guide explains these game-level mechanics; Serebii’s Wild Area reference provides named sub-areas and encounter information.
That means a useful map lookup needs more than a species name. A Pokémon being associated with the Wild Area does not mean it appears in every sub-area, in every weather condition, or in both game versions.
How to look up a Pokémon or raid den
- Identify the exact target. Check the species name, or identify the raid den or raid encounter you are trying to find.
- Find the named sub-area. Use a Wild Area reference to narrow the search to a specific location rather than treating the whole region as one encounter zone.
- Check weather and version. Confirm the weather condition and whether the encounter is available in Sword, Shield, or both. Weather affects which Pokémon appear; the official guide also notes that thunderstorms are associated with Electric-type encounters and describe rain and Electric Terrain battle effects.
- Confirm how the encounter works. Determine whether the Pokémon appears in the overworld, through a random grass encounter, or at a raid den. These methods are not interchangeable, and a den lookup is not the same as a normal wild encounter.
- Check whether you can catch it yet. Some strong Pokémon visible in the Wild Area cannot be caught at the beginning of the adventure. A location entry alone does not establish that your current progress is sufficient.
For species-specific details, compare the exact sub-area, weather, version, encounter method, and story-progress restriction in a current reference. Serebii distinguishes strong overworld Pokémon from den-based Max Raid Battles; the official guide describes the broader effects of location and weather.

What is known about Pokemondens
Pokemondens is a community-created interactive map project. Its creator described it as a way to bring Wild Area Pokémon-location and raid information together. Posts from January and February 2020 also discussed mobile usability and community suggestions for details such as weather, rarity, version, and whether an encounter was overworld or random.
Those historical posts establish the project’s purpose, not which suggested details were implemented or whether the site is working now. The map’s current online status, feature set, completeness, and encounter accuracy are not established here. If you can access Pokemondens, verify an entry against a current encounter reference before relying on it.

Why a map pin is not a catch guarantee
Keep three questions separate: whether a Pokémon is listed for a location, whether it appears under the current weather and version conditions, and whether your character can catch it at this point in the story. Strong visible Pokémon may be beyond your early-game catch limits. Check the encounter conditions and your progress before making a trip based on a map marker.
