To catch insects in Palia, equip a Belt and Smoke Bombs, then match each target’s listed habitat and time window. Some bugs roam freely; others hide in trees or under rocks, or appear when you mine or forage. The in-game bug description and collection accomplishment can help you check what you have caught and plan for missing species. The reference examples below are useful starting points, not a verified inventory of every spawn in the current build.
How to catch bugs in Palia
- Equip a Belt and carry Smoke Bombs. These are the tools used for bug catching, according to the Palia Wiki’s Bug Catching guide.
- Look for insects in their listed habitats. They may roam in an area, sit on or hide in trees, shelter under rocks, or appear inside gatherable resources. Some are tied to activities such as mining or foraging.
- When a bug notices you, watch for the alert and sound indicating it has been startled. Throw promptly: a startled insect may flee and disappear if you do not catch it.
- Use the caught bug’s description and the Kilima or Bahari Bug Collector accomplishment to review reported locations and times and identify what to look for next.
Schedules and triggers vary by species. Check the individual entry rather than assuming that all insects in a region share the same hours or behavior.
Where and when to find the insects covered here
The following examples combine the general Bugs reference with Auni’s introductory quest guide. Location wording differs between those references for the Common Blue Butterfly, so both are shown rather than treated as interchangeable. Check the current in-game description for a target’s specific spawn information.

Use the matching time window in the table to choose which target to pursue. The quest guide also lists its rewards, but does not change the catching requirements described above.
Planning a search for a different insect
For a species not listed in this guide, open its individual entry in the Bugs reference and note the location, time, rarity, behavior, and any quest or bundle association shown there. If the bug is tied to an activity, perform that activity in the stated area; searching the ground alone may not trigger it. Use the in-game description and collector accomplishment to cross-check your next attempt. Spawn details can vary by build, so treat the current in-game description as the practical reference when it disagrees with an older or differently worded entry.
