What did Play-Asia say about Xtreme 3?
On November 25, 2015, import retailer Play-Asia posted: “#DOAX3 will not be coming to the US due to #SJW nonsense. However, we will have the English Asia version available.” The post linked its explanation to an import offer. Play-Asia also posted, “Too sexist? I think you mean too sexy. #DOAX3”. Kotaku reproduced the posts in its coverage of the controversy.
Those posts establish what Play-Asia said while promoting an English Asia version. They do not establish why Koei Tecmo chose its release territories. The “Japan-only” shorthand is also incomplete: the publisher’s stated plan included Japan and other Asian territories, not Japan alone.
Where did the claim about treatment of women come from?
In November 2015, a community moderator on the Dead or Alive Facebook page said an official release outside Japan and Asia was unlikely. When asked why, the moderator referred to concerns about how women were treated in the video-game industry. The Guardian reproduced the comment: “Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision. Thank you.”

What was Koei Tecmo’s official clarification?
On December 1, 2015, Koei Tecmo said the employee’s remarks “only reflect that individual’s opinion and not the opinion or business strategy of Koei Tecmo Games.” The publisher reiterated that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 was planned for release in Japan and Asia only. Kotaku reproduced the clarification in its report on the controversy.

So, did Koei Tecmo say the game was withheld because of feminism or social-justice activism? The cited official clarification does not say that. It explicitly separates the moderator’s comment from company policy and confirms the regional release plan without adopting the moderator’s stated reasoning.
What reason was separately reported for the regional plan?
In an August 2015 interview with Famitsu, producer Yosuke Hayashi was reported as saying that the Xtreme series had an overwhelmingly larger domestic audience. After considering the matter, the company chose Japan and other Asian territories. Kotaku later reported this explanation in its April 2016 discussion of the release debate.
