For readers asking which PS4 console exclusives came out in 2017, the clearest sourced examples are Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Gravity Rush 2. “Console exclusive” means a game released on PS4 and not on competing consoles at the time; it does not necessarily mean the game was available only on PS4 or would never reach another platform. This is a historical guide to selected full-game releases, not a verified exhaustive catalog. It includes first-party and third-party console exclusives, but not DLC, expansions or remasters as separate entries.
What “PS4 exclusive” means in this list
Exclusivity can describe different things: a game published by Sony, a game available on just one platform, or one limited to PlayStation among consoles while also appearing on PC. A timed exclusive may later launch elsewhere. GameSpot framed its 2017 roundup as PS4 console exclusives, while Sony’s own year lineup also named partner games that were not necessarily exclusive. So a game’s appearance in Sony’s lineup is not, by itself, evidence that it was exclusive.
The titles below are supported examples, not a complete census. The evidence identifies some games as 2017 PS4 releases or planned releases, but does not establish every candidate’s actual launch date, platform availability, and regional timing. Where a source supports a planned year rather than confirmed release, that distinction is stated.
Supported PS4 exclusive examples from 2017
| Title | What the evidence establishes | How to read its inclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Horizon Zero Dawn | PlayStation’s official history lists the game under 2017. Sony’s June 2017 update also identifies it as a critically acclaimed title. The official history describes Aloy’s story in 31st-century North America among mechanical beasts. PlayStation official history; Sony’s June 2017 update. | A representative PS4 title for the year. These sources do not establish that it remained exclusive to PS4 across all platforms indefinitely. |
| Gran Turismo Sport | Sony’s June 2017 announcement listed it among the PS4 games anticipated for that year. Sony’s June 2017 update. | The cited announcement supports a planned-year listing, not an exact release date or final release status. It does not alone establish exclusivity. |
| Uncharted: The Lost Legacy | Sony included it among PS4 games slated for 2017; PlayStation’s E3 roundup gave an August 22 launch date. Sony’s June 2017 update; PlayStation’s E3 roundup. | The E3 post is a contemporaneous announcement source. Its date should not be generalized to every territory. |
| Gravity Rush 2 | GameSpot’s October 2017 roundup gives January 20 as its release date and names SIE Japan Studio and Project Siren as developers. GameSpot’s 2017 roundup. | A useful contemporaneous example; this source is editorial reporting rather than a primary release record. |
Games shown in 2017 that did not release that year
A showcase appearance is not proof of a same-year launch. PlayStation’s E3 roundup explicitly said God of War was confirmed for early 2018, and PlayStation’s official history places both God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018. They should not be counted as 2017 releases just because they featured in 2017 coverage. PlayStation’s E3 roundup; PlayStation official history.

Why region and later ports matter
Sony cautioned that its PS4 title lineup differed by region. Release dates and availability should therefore be attached to a territory when making a precise claim; the June 2017 slate is not proof that every market had identical dates or access. Sony’s June 2017 update.
“Console exclusive” is also time-sensitive. A title may be exclusive among consoles at launch yet later appear on PC or another platform. The sources cited here support the historical framing used by contemporary coverage; they do not verify every title’s present-day platform status. Avoid reading “PS4 exclusive” as “available only on PS4 forever.”

What the 2017 list can—and cannot—tell you
Sony’s June announcement offers useful context for the scale of the PS4 era, but its figures are company-reported and date-specific: 60.4 million PS4 units sold through worldwide as of June 11, 2017, estimated from retail sales to consumers; and 487.8 million software copies sold through worldwide by that date through retail and PlayStation Store downloads, excluding add-on content. These numbers describe Sony’s reported ecosystem at the time, not the quality or exclusivity of any particular game. Sony’s June 2017 update.
