Some players said they had to reinstall Black Ops 6 or Warzone after the mandatory Black Ops 7 preload reorganized Call of Duty HQ. PiunikaWeb reported those accounts alongside large download examples, but Activision has not confirmed that update 1.085 intentionally deleted existing files or that every player was affected. The key distinction: reports describe missing local game content, not Black Ops 6 items being removed from players’ accounts.
What happened with the Black Ops 7 update?
PiunikaWeb reported on November 11, 2025, that update 1.085 was a mandatory preload for Black Ops 7 and reorganized Call of Duty HQ. Players cited in the report said Black Ops 6 or Warzone content had disappeared from their installations and needed to be downloaded again. Some described the update as “the update deleted bo6.”

Those are player reports summarized by a secondary source, not an official finding that Activision deliberately removed Black Ops 6 files. Activision’s reviewed material explains how Call of Duty HQ handles shared installations, but does not confirm the specific reported losses or identify an incident-specific fix.
Do you have to redownload Black Ops 6?
Not necessarily. PiunikaWeb’s accounts describe some players needing to reinstall Black Ops 6 or Warzone content; they do not establish that every player, platform, or installation was affected. Check the content installed on your own system before starting a full download.

- Open Call of Duty HQ and check its installed game or content packs. Look for Black Ops 6 and any Warzone packs you previously used.
- If a pack is missing, open the game’s content-management or installation options on your platform and select only the content you want. Activision’s Black Ops 7 support index links to installation setup and content-management guidance.
- Confirm the launcher or console is downloading the missing pack rather than every Call of Duty title. Download totals reported by players varied, and no official universal requirement was established.
Why might a Call of Duty HQ update need a large download?
Call of Duty titles use a shared base installation through Call of Duty HQ. In a 2024 explanation, Activision said that a major update can require a large initial download while files are reorganized, with a smaller final installation footprint expected. That describes the general system; it is not confirmation of what happened to any particular player’s files during the 2025 preload.
Activision’s same 2024 explainer said: “Older content that you’re not playing does not get automatically removed from the Call of Duty install, outside of special situations where content is temporarily available, like a beta.” This is a general policy description from before the reported incident. It does not rule out the player experiences described in November 2025.

How much space did the Black Ops 7 update need?
PiunikaWeb reported different download experiences in November 2025. These are examples attributed to players, not official sizes, platform-wide measurements, or current requirements.

The report does not provide standardized measurements that would explain each difference or establish which platform was more reliable. Previously installed content packs and whether someone faced a missing pack or a broader re-download may matter, but the available accounts do not quantify those factors.

That is a separate issue from local installation files. In an August 2025 community update, Activision said: “Operators, Operator Skins, and Weapons from Black Ops 6 will no longer carry forward into Black Ops 7.” It also said Double XP tokens and GobbleGums would carry forward, and that Black Ops 6 content would remain usable in Warzone. These rules concern in-game content and progression between titles, not whether Black Ops 6 files remain installed on a device.
