What does PlayStation Network status show?
In the status-page snapshot recorded for October 8, 2026, PlayStation listed a problem with Create Account on the web, beginning at 12:08 a.m. The same snapshot showed Gaming and social as running, as well as PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct. This is a point-in-time report, not evidence that console gameplay was down across PS5 or PS4.
The status page is the primary place to check for a current incident. Its reported service scope matters: a web account-creation issue is different from an outage affecting console gaming. Sony’s PlayStation account page also directs users to check network status.
Why can’t I connect or sign in on PS5 or PS4?
A console connection error does not by itself establish that PSN is down. Check the official service status first, then follow the guidance for the exact error code shown on your screen. Sony’s recommendations differ for CE-108877-1 and E2-8223b400.

If you see CE-108877-1
Sony says PlayStation Network may be under maintenance when this error appears. Its advice is to check the CE-108877-1 support page and try again after a few hours.
If you see E2-8223b400
Sony says this connection problem may be due to server congestion. Its listed steps are to check network status, turn off the router and modem, wait at least five minutes, and then turn them back on. If the problem persists, consult PlayStation Repairs for further troubleshooting. These steps do not establish that your router needs replacement.

How to work out whether the problem is PSN or your connection
- Check the service status. Look at the official page for the service named in your error or problem. Note whether Gaming and social is reported as running or affected.
- Match the symptom to its scope. A web Create Account incident does not, on its own, explain an inability to play online on a console. Likewise, one console’s connection failure does not prove a network-wide outage.
- Use the support steps for your error code. Follow Sony’s instructions for CE-108877-1 or E2-8223b400 rather than assuming every connection error has the same cause.
- Check status again if the issue continues. A status snapshot describes services at a particular moment; the affected services may change.
Has Sony confirmed that PS5 and PS4 players were knocked offline?
The available official snapshot does not confirm that claim. It records a web account-creation issue while Gaming and social is shown as running. No named Sony spokesperson statement confirming a PS5-and-PS4 gameplay outage is established here.
