Pokémon: The 15 Strongest Gigantamax Forms, Ranked

Snorlax leads this editorial ranking thanks to G-Max Replenish and an official “one of the strongest” description. See how 14 other Sword and Shield Gigantamax forms compare by battle utility.

Gigantamax Snorlax is the strongest form by the clearest official endorsement, but this ranking weighs battle utility rather than treating that statement as a universal tier list. The Pokémon Company International calls it “one of the strongest Dynamax Pokémon discovered”; its G-Max Replenish also deals damage and can restore Berries that its allies consumed. The order below is an editorial assessment of each G-Max Move’s impact, damage or team support, and usefulness across common battle situations—not an official ranking or a claim based on tournament results.

Gigantamax is available only to certain species, and only rare specimens of those species can use it. It changes a Pokémon’s appearance and power and gives it a species-specific G-Max Move unavailable to ordinary Dynamax Pokémon. Max Raid Battles are one official way to catch Gigantamax Pokémon. The ranking covers Sword and Shield forms, including Expansion Pass additions; acquisition exceptions are noted separately.

How the ranking works

A strong form needs more than a striking design or a powerful-sounding move. The ranking favors effects that can influence more than one narrow matchup, while also accounting for direct damage, team support, and disruption. Since G-Max moves belong to individual species, their value depends on the situation; no official source establishes a universal best-to-worst order.

The 15 strongest Gigantamax forms

  1. Snorlax — G-Max Replenish

Snorlax takes the top spot because its move combines damage with team support: G-Max Replenish can restore Berries consumed by Snorlax and its allies during battle. That gives it a practical payoff beyond the hit itself. The Pokémon Company International’s official Gigantamax Snorlax page describes it as “one of the strongest Dynamax Pokémon discovered.” That is an official qualitative statement about Snorlax, not a ranking of all 15 forms.

  2. Rillaboom — G-Max Drum Solo

The Gigantamax Galar starter evolutions are described by the official Expansion Pass page as having especially powerful G-Max Moves. Rillaboom earns a high place for its direct offensive emphasis: it turns the move into a focused damage option rather than relying on a narrow secondary condition. Its practical value is clearest when the goal is to pressure an opponent through damage.

  3. Cinderace — G-Max Fireball

Like Rillaboom, Cinderace benefits from the official description of the Galar starters’ moves as especially powerful. G-Max Fireball’s straightforward offensive role is broadly legible: it is an attack-first choice, rather than a move whose central value depends on a particular support plan or opponent behavior.

  4. Inteleon — G-Max Hydrosnipe

Inteleon rounds out the starter trio near the top because its G-Max move is part of the same group singled out by the Expansion Pass page for especially powerful moves. Its placement reflects the value of a direct attack option, while recognizing that the official material does not provide comparative damage figures that would justify a precise numerical advantage over the other two starters.

  5. Urshifu — G-Max One Blow or G-Max Rapid Flow

The Expansion Pass adds Gigantamax Urshifu. Its G-Max move differs by Urshifu’s style: Single Strike Style uses G-Max One Blow, while Rapid Strike Style uses G-Max Rapid Flow. Having a style-specific attack gives it a strong offensive identity, though that split means there is not one identical move across every Gigantamax Urshifu.

  6. Venusaur — G-Max Vine Lash

Venusaur is one of the Expansion Pass forms. Its placement reflects the value of adding pressure through its species-specific G-Max attack, rather than a claim that it outdamages another form in every matchup. It is a strong option when the battle plan benefits from an offensive move with impact beyond simply changing Venusaur’s size and appearance.

  7. Blastoise — G-Max Cannonade

Blastoise is another Expansion Pass addition. Its G-Max attack gives it a clear offensive role, making it a dependable candidate when the goal is to convert Gigantamax into pressure. The source material does not establish a numerical comparison with Venusaur or the Galar starters, so their exact relative order is an editorial judgment.

  8. Melmetal — G-Max Meltdown

Melmetal’s Gigantamax form is an Expansion Pass-era addition, but it comes with an important eligibility restriction: Pokémon Support says only the special Melmetal gift obtained by transferring from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME can Gigantamax in Sword and Shield. Its placement reflects its G-Max attack’s battle utility, not ease of access to a Gigantamax-capable specimen.

  9. Corviknight — G-Max Wind Rage

Corviknight’s place in the ranking comes from the utility of its species-specific move as well as its attack value. It offers a different kind of battle impact from a form judged chiefly on straightforward offense, making it useful when disruption matters. The benefit is conditional on the opponent’s setup and the battle state, so it sits below the more consistently direct options.

  10. Butterfree — G-Max Befuddle

G-Max Befuddle can disrupt an opponent by inflicting a status condition, which gives Butterfree a route to influence a battle beyond raw damage. The trade-off is reliability: status disruption is useful when it lands, but a situational effect is less universally dependable than direct offensive pressure or Snorlax’s Berry restoration.

  11. Lapras — G-Max Resonance

Lapras earns its position for a move that can support a defensive game plan, rather than only aiming to deal damage. That kind of team benefit can matter over multiple turns, but its value depends on whether the team can take advantage of the defensive support it creates.

  12. Grimmsnarl — G-Max Snooze

Grimmsnarl’s G-Max move is valued for disruption rather than a broad, unconditional damage advantage. Disruption can swing a turn or interrupt an opponent’s plan, but it is inherently more situational than an effect that helps the user’s team regardless of what the opponent is attempting.

  13. Coalossal — G-Max Volcalith

Coalossal’s move can add pressure beyond its immediate hit, rewarding a plan that can maintain the battle long enough to benefit from that continuing threat. It ranks lower because that value depends more on the course of the match than an immediate attack or support effect.

  14. Alcremie — G-Max Finale

Alcremie offers team support through its G-Max move, making it more than a damage-focused choice. Its relative position reflects the narrower situations in which healing or support is preferable to immediate pressure; on a team built to exploit that assistance, it can be more useful than this ranking suggests.

  15. Sandaconda — G-Max Sandblast

Sandaconda closes the list as a more matchup-dependent choice. Its move can create pressure through its battlefield effect, but that approach is less universally useful than the moves ranked above it. It can still be the right fit when its effect complements the team’s plan.

Which Gigantamax Pokémon is the strongest?

For an answer supported by an explicit official description, choose Snorlax: The Pokémon Company International calls it one of the strongest Dynamax Pokémon discovered, and G-Max Replenish adds Berry recovery for its side. If “strongest” means the best fit for a particular team, the answer can change: the starter evolutions are highlighted for especially powerful G-Max Moves, while status disruption, defense, and ongoing pressure reward different battle plans.

Which forms are included, and how can you get them?

The ranking spans the Sword and Shield roster and the Expansion Pass additions. The official Expansion Pass Pokémon page lists Rillaboom, Cinderace, Inteleon, Venusaur, Blastoise, Melmetal, and Urshifu among the added Gigantamax forms. The official Sword and Shield Gigantamax overview explains that only certain species and rare specimens can Gigantamax and identifies Max Raid Battles as a way to catch them. For a roster and availability cross-check, Serebii’s Gigantamax reference tracks forms and game or event availability.

Melmetal is a special case. Pokémon Support says only the special gift received by transferring from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME can Gigantamax in Sword and Shield; ordinary Melmetal cannot gain the Gigantamax Factor from Max Soup. See Pokémon Support’s Gigantamax Melmetal guidance.
