Pokémon Pokopia is a life-simulation and sandbox game for Nintendo Switch 2 in which you play as a Ditto that has taken human form. It launched on March 5, 2026. Rather than collecting Pokémon through traditional battles, you restore a desolate world, craft and build, tend gardens, and make places where Pokémon can live.
What is Pokémon Pokopia?
Nintendo describes Pokopia as “a relaxing life simulation game devoted to crafting, creating, and building.” The Pokémon Company has also called it Pokémon’s first cozy sandbox game. Those are the companies’ descriptions; the game’s central idea is a slower, creative adventure focused on rebuilding a world with Pokémon.
You control a Ditto transformed to look like a human. As you explore the desolate setting, you gather materials, craft furniture and other items, restore the land, and create habitats for Pokémon to inhabit.
What do you do in Pokémon Pokopia?
The main loop is to explore, collect resources, improve the environment, and attract Pokémon to the places you create. Pokémon can teach you useful moves: Nintendo says these abilities let you grow plants, break walls, surf, and glide. In-game time follows real-world time, with changing weather and day-and-night cycles, according to The Pokémon Company’s March 2026 release.

What is included in the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass?
Nintendo describes a paid Expansion Pass with three parts. Part 1, Bubbly Basin, arrived in August 2026 and adds an underwater town, Pokémon, furniture, outfits, and underwater building. The game page says the free Dive move update and a request at Bleak Beach are prerequisites for accessing this content.

- Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass
There is a date discrepancy in the official sources: Nintendo support lists Part 1’s release as August 4, 2026, while The Pokémon Company’s August 14, 2026 press release says August 5. Neither source explains the difference, so the exact date may depend on regional timing. Nintendo lists Part 2 for late 2026 and Part 3 for 2027. The pass is sold through Nintendo eShop and Nintendo Store, and its parts cannot be bought separately.
How many copies has Pokémon Pokopia sold?
Official sales figures are dated milestones, not a current lifetime total. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company reported 2.2 million copies worldwide in the first four days, including 1 million in Japan; Nintendo’s March 12, 2026 announcement says that figure includes physical and digital versions. The Pokémon Company later reported 5 million copies worldwide in the first four months in an August 14, 2026 release, attributing the underlying sales data to Nintendo and noting that the total includes digital versions.

Who developed and publishes Pokémon Pokopia?
Nintendo identifies The Pokémon Company, GAME FREAK inc., and KOEI TECMO GAMES as co-developers. Nintendo says it publishes the game outside Japan; The Pokémon Company’s August 2026 release describes Nintendo as its distributor outside Japan. Those roles are distinct, so “developer,” “publisher,” and “distributor” should not be used interchangeably.
