Each digital game costs $19.99 in the US; neither has a physical Switch edition. Both also work on Nintendo Switch 2.
What the Switch release includes
Nintendo describes these as 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes of the original Pokémon Red and Green adventures. They return players to the Kanto region and include the original 151 Pokémon as well as the Sevii Islands. The Switch versions are sold as separate games, not as a bundle.
Nintendo Support says the rereleases mark Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, describing them as “the ultimate versions of the original Pokémon adventures in the Kanto region.”
Price, format, and language editions
The US suggested retail price is $19.99 per game. The Switch releases are digital-only: Nintendo Support says there will be no physical versions. Nintendo’s launch-week mention of select retailers does not mean boxed cartridges are available.

In the Americas, Nintendo lists English, European French, and European Spanish editions separately. There is no in-game language selector, so check the edition’s language before purchasing.
Do you need Nintendo Switch Online?
No. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to buy or play either game. The games do not support online multiplayer.

How multiplayer works
Trading, battling, and a minigame are available through the Pokémon Wireless Club using local wireless. Nintendo says up to four other players can connect. Multiplayer requires additional copies of the games and additional systems, so it is not an online service or a single-console multiplayer mode.
Choosing FireRed or LeafGreen
The releases are separate versions of the Kanto adventure. If you are deciding between them, consider which version you prefer and whether you want to trade locally with someone who owns the other one. Nintendo’s cited announcement and support information do not provide a full list of version-exclusive Pokémon, so this overview does not enumerate exclusives.

Switch 2 compatibility and Pokémon HOME
Nintendo says both games function on Nintendo Switch 2. The Pokémon Company’s Japanese official page lists Pokémon HOME linkage as planned for October 2026; that is a regional announcement, and its availability or terms should not be assumed to apply identically in every region.
The same Japanese page says completing the software Pokédex awards a Celebi, while entering the Hall of Fame adds the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket. These are details published on that Japanese regional page; check the applicable local listing for current regional availability.

How popular have the Switch releases been?
Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s May 2026 investor report says the two games together exceeded 4 million units in global cumulative sell-through during the first six weeks after their February 27 release. Nintendo defines sell-through as sales to individual consumers; the figure is for the pair, not each title individually.
