What is Shattered?
PlaySide announced Shattered on October 23, 2024, describing it as a single-player psychological thriller for Meta Quest. Players take the role of Jessica, a private investigator drawn into a mysterious mental-health facility and the secrets of Greyvale. The story moves through fragmented memories and unstable versions of reality. GamesBeat described its setting as a city resembling 1990s Boston.
The game is built around narrative, puzzles and suspense rather than action. PlaySide vice president Jamie Bentley called it “this gripping escape room thriller that blurs the lines between memory and madness.” Executive producer Ivan Ertlov described its uncertain perspective: “We have different levels of reality, and none of them is reliable.”
How does its mixed reality work?
In mixed reality, the headset’s view of the player’s physical surroundings is combined with virtual content. In Shattered, the room is more than a backdrop: launch coverage describes puzzles and scenes appearing in the player’s space, with room surfaces and layout incorporated into exploration and object manipulation. That makes the experience closer to an escape room arranged around your surroundings than to a conventional VR world that replaces the room entirely.

These are features described in launch coverage, not independent hands-on findings. The precise way the game uses a particular room may depend on the play space and headset.
Has Shattered released?
Yes. PlaySide’s FY25 results presentation states that Shattered launched on Meta Quest in December 2024. The company’s games catalogue currently lists the title and links to Meta. The original announcement had described a December release window; the later company report confirms that the launch took place.

Which headset do you need?
At announcement, PlaySide named Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. Road to VR also listed Quest Pro as an expected platform at that time. Those are historical platform statements, not a verified current compatibility list. Use the live PlaySide games catalogue link to Meta and check the store page for supported models before buying; the reviewed sources do not establish current model-by-model support.
Is Shattered horror or an escape-room game?
It is best described as a narrative puzzle thriller with escape-room elements. The premise and distorted memories give it a psychological, unsettling tone, while the core activity described at launch centers on exploring and solving puzzles. GamesBeat reported that the developers wanted suspense without taking the game too far into horror, so readers seeking a conventional horror game should not assume it is designed primarily around scares.

What did the developers say about length and price?
Before release, Bentley estimated, “We can keep you engaged for six to eight hours in mixed reality.” That is a developer estimate, not a measured average; actual time can vary with puzzle-solving pace. GamesBeat reported an intended US price of $20 and an intended age rating of 13+ at announcement, with regional ratings varying. Neither figure should be treated as current: check the Meta listing for today’s regional price and rating. Meta game product marketing manager Aaron Krause said, “This is a unique title. We know our audience really loves new experiences.”
