ASUS announced the ROG Ally X on June 2, 2024, as an upgraded model in its ROG Ally handheld line. It kept the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor while revising memory, storage, battery capacity, chassis, ergonomics, cooling, and connectivity. This is the 2024 ROG Ally X, model RC72LA—not the ROG Xbox Ally X announced later with Xbox in 2025.
What is the ROG Ally X?
The ROG Ally X is ASUS’s 2024 Windows gaming handheld and an update to the original ROG Ally. ASUS Republic of Gamers described its approach as retaining the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme while adding upgraded storage, RAM, and battery life, alongside a revised chassis intended to improve ergonomics, cooling, and connectivity. The announcement did not describe a new processor generation.
ASUS’s announced configuration listed 24 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory, 1 TB of storage, and an 80 Wh battery. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance or battery-life test results. ASUS’s June 2, 2024 announcement
How does the 2024 Ally X differ from the original ROG Ally?
ASUS’s announcement describes the changes by category rather than establishing comparative benchmark results. The practical distinction is an updated configuration and design around the same Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.
