Speak to Alyx to begin A Pirate Predicament, then find Bonenose to start the pirate quests. For Pirate Gastronomy, gather eight types of in-game items in specific quantities, return to Bonenose, and retrieve the hidden final ingredient from Cold Storage at Hrothgar’s Landing.
How to start Pirate Foods and Superstitions
- At the anniversary celebration, accept A Pirate Predicament from Alyx.
- Speak with Bonenose at the pirate camp outside the Caverns of Time in Tanaris to begin Pirate Foods and Superstitions.
Bonenose explains the crew’s urgency: Cooktholomew, their cook, was lost at sea, and the Buccaneers will not set sail without the lucky feast he prepared before each voyage. That is the quest’s fictional pirate superstition, not a claim about historical pirates. The quest dialogue is reproduced on the Warcraft Wiki quest page.
Find Cooktholomew’s notes in Booty Bay
- Travel to Booty Bay and search around the bunk area for Cooktholomew’s notes.
- For a clue, speak with Mrs. Gant, the cooking trainer; then loot the nearby barrel.
- Find Scowling Rosa, who patrols around Booty Bay, and ask her to decipher the notes.
Speaking with Innkeeper Skindle and Kelsey Yance can provide extra clues, but those conversations are optional. The breadcrumb quest A Pirate Missive may also be skipped. The Guest Relations World Event guide describes the route and NPCs.
Decoded ingredients for Pirate Gastronomy
Rosa translates Cooktholomew’s coded recipe names into the following game items. These are virtual quest items, not a real-world recipe.

Find the secret ingredient at Hrothgar’s Landing

Availability and Booty Bay faction trouble
This quest pair belongs to the seasonal Guest Relations anniversary event. The event is described as typically lasting two weeks, but that does not establish a guaranteed return schedule or whether these quests are active on a particular date. Check the current in-game event state before setting out; availability on October 8, 2026, has not been verified.
Booty Bay NPC interactions may be complicated if your character is allied with the Bloodsail Buccaneers: Booty Bay Bruisers can become hostile, and the quest guide notes that players in this situation may need to tank them while completing the steps.
