The studio was expected to close in March, with roughly 70 employees affected. Sony’s reported explanation was that the decision followed a recent business review; public reporting does not disclose the review’s detailed findings or establish that a cancelled God of War project alone led to the closure.
What happened to Bluepoint Games?
Bluepoint Games was an Austin-based developer that Sony acquired in 2021 and made part of PlayStation Studios. In February 2026, Sony confirmed the studio’s closure to Game Developer. That report said the shutdown was expected in March and would affect roughly 70 employees; TechRadar also reported March as the anticipated timing. Those are reported expectations, not confirmation of the exact final operating date or a final count of employees affected.
Sony’s reported explanation was that the decision followed a recent business review. TechRadar reported that Bluepoint had worked on a live-service God of War project that was cancelled, but available public reporting does not establish that this project alone caused the studio’s closure.
Why did PlayStation close Bluepoint?
The publicly reported explanation is limited: Sony said the decision followed a recent business review. Neither the detailed findings of that review nor a specific financial or project-related rationale have been made public in the reporting available here. It is therefore not possible to say precisely why Sony chose to close the studio.
