What is the latest PHYSINT update?
In comments about the game’s creative direction reported by GamesRadar on October 5, 2026, Hideo Kojima described PHYSINT as a spy game and said he wants “plenty of new ideas and a different kind of spy action.” GamesRadar’s English rendering of his Koji10 podcast comments also quotes him saying, “It’s quite different.”
The studio has separately confirmed two major project details: Bill Skarsgård is the lead performer, and Xbox is the publishing partner. Kojima Productions calls PHYSINT its third original IP and an action-espionage game.
Is PHYSINT like Metal Gear?
They share an espionage association, but Kojima has characterized PHYSINT as creatively distinct: he wants new ideas and a different kind of spy action. That is the confirmed point of comparison—not evidence that PHYSINT is a Metal Gear installment or that it will share specific gameplay systems, characters, or story connections.

Kojima Productions has described the project as an action-espionage game. In its September 9 Xbox announcement, Kojima said, “As we move forward with the development of PHYSINT, we remain committed to redefining the action-espionage genre for players around the world.” The statement sets an ambition, but does not detail how the gameplay will work.
Who is in the cast?
Kojima Productions officially confirmed Bill Skarsgård as the lead on September 17, 2026. Kojima said, “I’m delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård.” The studio also said Skarsgård and Charlee Fraser took part in costume fittings, scans, and camera tests earlier in 2026; it did not identify Fraser as the lead.

Who is publishing PHYSINT now?
Xbox is the confirmed publishing partner. Xbox Wire announced the partnership on September 9, 2026, and Kojima Productions confirmed Xbox as the partner the next day. These announcements establish a publishing partnership, not a confirmed list of platforms. They do not give a release window or announce preorders.

In a September 20, 2026 interview with The Washington Post, Kojima said the plot and concept had been written, storyboards were prepared, 3D models were being created, and cast scanning had begun. He also said the team was experimenting with engines and had not made a final engine choice. These are interview-reported development details, not an official schedule or a promise about when the game will be finished.
