Franchise is the strongest reason to consider Madden NFL 26. Its weekly coaching decisions, staff and playsheet loadouts, scouting, and player fatigue give the season more texture, and a GamesRadar+ review praised those changes along with the presentation and core gameplay. Superstar offers a more structured individual career, but the same review found it less compelling over time. The assessment is based on a PS5 review, not a cross-platform test or a consensus among players.
What changed in Franchise?
EA’s Franchise update puts more emphasis on the decisions between games. Its July 2, 2025 deep dive describes coach archetypes and progression, Gameday and Season Abilities, staff and playsheet loadouts, scouting, and preparation for opponents. Playsheets are described as mini playbooks that expand a team’s base playbook. EA calls this its biggest Franchise update in over a decade; that is the publisher’s characterization, not an independently measured comparison with earlier editions.

In the GamesRadar+ review, weekly loadouts and playsheets were among the most engaging additions. The reviewer also praised Wear & Tear as an upgrade, while warning that season-long fatigue could leave important players struggling late in the year. Fiddly menus and slow-loading player cards were further irritants. That makes Franchise more strategically involved, but not friction-free.
What does Superstar add?
Superstar focuses on one player’s career rather than a team’s coaching and roster decisions. EA’s June 27, 2025 deep dive describes three connected ideas:

- Game Day Beats: career moments intended to give the season a more personal rhythm.
EA also describes importing a player from College Football 26 and participating in live events. These are announced features, not independent confirmation that each system works equally well in play. GamesRadar+ welcomed the relationship layer as an off-field wrinkle, but found Superstar less likely than Franchise to hold attention over the long run.
Franchise or Superstar: which mode fits you?

If you want to manage a team’s season, Franchise has the clearest case. If you prefer shaping one player’s rise and relationships, Superstar is the more directly tailored option, though the independent review offers less evidence that its loop stays engaging.
How strong is the gameplay and presentation?
GamesRadar+ also praised the core gameplay, player-specific quarterback traits, and broadcast presentation, including halftime coverage. The review’s overall verdict was positive, particularly about Franchise and presentation. It also noted that some Ultimate Team items are locked behind the paid Premium Pass, a monetization caveat that matters more to Ultimate Team players than to someone buying Madden mainly for Franchise or Superstar.

EA’s August 14, 2025 launch announcement says QB DNA and Coach DNA draw on nearly a decade of real NFL data to represent player-specific behaviors and adaptive coaching. That describes the publisher’s intended systems; it is not an independently validated technical result or a benchmark of how accurately the game reproduces NFL decisions.

No quantified year-over-year improvement is established here. The review identifies worthwhile Franchise changes and praises presentation and gameplay, but it does not provide a controlled comparison or evidence that every part of the game has improved by a measurable amount. Treat it as a positive assessment of Madden NFL 26’s features, not proof that it is significantly better than Madden NFL 25 for every player.
Which platforms were assessed?
GamesRadar+ reviewed the PS5 version in August 2025 and disclosed that the publisher provided the review code. EA’s launch announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, as well as Amazon Luna. The available review does not establish performance, feature parity, or mode differences on Xbox, Switch 2, PC, or Luna, and it is not a controlled platform comparison.
