To solve the Terminus math puzzle, match the X, Y and Z symbols on the Research Office computer’s sticky notes to the grid on the left whiteboard, then use those numbers in the three equations on the right whiteboard. Enter the answers in order. The symbols—and therefore the code—change from match to match; there is no universal code.
Where to find the puzzle
The math step is part of the Beamsmasher quest in Terminus Zombies. In the Standard Mode sequence described by PowerPyx, reach the Research Office after obtaining the EMF Fob and Multiphasic Resonator and activating three laptops around the map. The computer then displays three sticky notes labeled X, Y and Z, each with a symbol. The quest step may appear in a different order in Directed Mode.
For map context, Activision describes Terminus as a remote island complex in the Philippine Sea, but its official map guide does not explain this puzzle. The walkthrough sequence is covered by PowerPyx’s Terminus Easter egg guide.
How to turn the symbols into numbers
- Look at the three sticky notes on the computer and record the symbol beside X, the one beside Y and the one beside Z. Keep the labels straight; do not reorder the inputs.
- Find the symbol grid on the left whiteboard in the back-left corner of the Research Office.
- For each symbol, identify its row and column. Read the row number first, then the column number along the bottom; together they give the value.
The possible values are 0, 10, 11, 20, 21 and 22. Some walkthroughs write the zero value as “00”; use 0 when doing the arithmetic. The grid and its row-first reading are described in PowerPyx’s walkthrough and the Terminus Calculator.

Calculate the three code numbers
The right whiteboard gives the equations. Substitute the values you found for X, Y and Z, then calculate each line in order:
- First entry: 2X + 11
- Second entry: (2Z + Y) − 5
- Third entry: |Y + Z − X|
The vertical bars in the third equation mean absolute value: if the calculation inside them is negative, remove the minus sign. The equations stay the same across matches, while the symbol assignments change, according to the calculator’s equation guide.

Worked example
One PowerPyx example has X = 0 (shown there as 00), Y = 22 and Z = 10. Applying the board’s equations gives:
- First: 2 × 0 + 11 = 11
- Second: (2 × 10 + 22) − 5 = 37
- Third: |22 + 10 − 0| = 32
That board’s code is 11, 37, 32. It is only an example from one match, not a reusable code. For a different set of symbols, calculate again. ONE Esports gives a separate example with X = 11, Y = 0 and Z = 21, which produces 33, 37 and 10 in order: ONE Esports’ Terminus puzzle guide.

Enter the answers and continue the quest
Enter the first, second and third results in the order shown on the whiteboard. PowerPyx says a successful entry flashes green. Once the code is accepted, take the red-glowing light above the computer and follow the computer’s island marker; the next step takes you there by boat.
In solo play, you can take a screenshot of the board and pause while you work through the calculations, as PowerPyx suggests. This makes it easier to preserve the symbol assignments and check each expression before entering the code.

Choose how to solve it
- Calculate it yourself: Use the two whiteboards and the three expressions. This does not require spending Essence.
- Use a fan-made calculator: The Terminus Calculator accepts your X, Y and Z symbol choices and returns the code. It is optional, not required; its terms say the result depends on selecting the symbols correctly and do not guarantee accuracy for every game version.
- Pay Dr. Peck: Walkthroughs describe a 5,000-point/Essence payment at the Guard Station to reveal the code. This spends in-game currency, not real money. See PowerPyx or ONE Esports for this option.
Fix common code-entry mistakes
- The code is rejected: Check that each symbol was matched to the correct grid position, that X, Y and Z stayed in their labeled places, and that you entered the equation results in displayed order.
- The third result is negative: Use its absolute value, which makes the answer positive.
- Your board differs from a guide: Symbol assignments vary between matches. Use the sticky notes in your current game rather than copying another run’s code.
- The puzzle appears at an unexpected point: PowerPyx’s sequence is based on Standard Mode; its guide notes that Directed Mode can show objectives in a different order.
