Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version launched for Nintendo Switch on February 27, 2026. They are digital-only eShop purchases, not physical releases. Preorder details are now historical; check your regional Nintendo eShop for current availability and price.

When did FireRed and LeafGreen come out on Switch?

Nintendo announced the rereleases on February 20, 2026, and made them available on February 27, 2026. Both dates have passed, so these games are out now. Nintendo’s announcement describes them as separate digital releases for Nintendo Switch systems: Nintendo’s announcement.

Can you still preorder them, and how much do they cost?

No preorder window is relevant now that the games have launched. Nintendo’s support FAQ lists both titles as available in Nintendo eShop but does not state a regional price or preorder start date. Check the listing in your country’s eShop for current availability and price: Nintendo Support’s FAQ.

Are the Switch versions physical or digital?

They are standalone digital eShop releases. Nintendo says, “The games will not receive physical releases,” so there is no boxed Switch edition of these rereleases. The original Game Boy Advance cartridges are a different edition.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! - Nintendo Switch
  • Don the role of a Pokémon Trainer as you travel through Kanto
  • Discover a new species of Pokémon with the Pokémon Lets Go series
  • Catch Pokémon in the wild using a gentle throwing motion with either a Joy-Con controller or a Poké Ball Plus accessory, which will light up, vibrate, and make sounds to bring your adventure to life
  • See the world in style by customizing Pikachu and your Trainer with a selection of outfits
  • Connect to Pokémon GO* to transfer caught Kanto-region Pokémon, including Alolan and Shiny forms, as well as the newly discovered Pokémon, Meltan, from that game to this one

Which Nintendo systems support the games?

The releases work on Nintendo Switch systems and are playable on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo says there are no major performance differences between the two systems. The games broadly retain the original Game Boy Advance contents, with connectivity handled through built-in local wireless. They are standalone software and are not planned for the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics collection.

Do you need Nintendo Switch Online, and can you play online?

Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to buy or play either game. Multiplayer uses local wireless, not online play. Local wireless supports trading, battling, and a minigame in the Pokémon Wireless Club; Nintendo says up to four other players can connect.

Nintendo Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! (Nintendo Switch) (European Version)
  • Meet countless characters from the beloved series
  • High-end visuals, modern resolutions and carefully polished gameplay
  • Brand new horde mode multiplayer for up to two players, online and splitscreen

Which language version should you buy?

In the Americas, each game is offered as a separate English, European French, or European Spanish version, matching the language versions available for the original Game Boy Advance release. Nintendo advises checking the language before completing your purchase, since the versions are separate listings.

Can you transfer Pokémon to Pokémon HOME?

Yes. Nintendo says Pokémon can be transferred from these titles to Pokémon HOME. The transfer is one-way: once a Pokémon moves from FireRed or LeafGreen into HOME, it cannot return to that game. See The Pokémon Company’s HOME compatibility announcement.
