Olivia is Mario’s main companion in Paper Mario: The Origami King. She is King Olly’s younger sister and joins Mario to stop him. Bowser and other characters help along the way, while Luigi supports the effort separately rather than serving as Mario’s regular traveling partner.
Who is Olivia in Paper Mario: The Origami King?
Olivia is King Olly’s younger sister and the central companion who travels with Mario. She sides with Mario against her brother’s plan to refold the world into an origami kingdom. Nintendo describes her as someone who uses her powers for good and can help point players in the right direction. Nintendo’s game overview
Does Bowser help Mario?
Yes. Bowser cooperates with Mario and Olivia after Olly’s forces turn many of Bowser’s minions into Folded Soldiers. That gives Bowser a reason to oppose Olly, even though he is not the story’s central companion.
Does Luigi travel with Mario?
Luigi helps with the rescue effort on a separate track: he searches for the keys to Peach’s Castle while Mario works to defeat Olly and cut the streamers. Nintendo’s overview does not describe Luigi as part of Mario’s regular traveling group. Nintendo’s game overview

Are there other companions?
Yes. Other quirky characters join Mario for a time, and some may help in battle. The group is therefore a revolving cast of temporary allies rather than a permanent party. Nintendo’s overview describes these allies broadly but does not give a complete roster or specify each character’s battle contribution.
How the companion roles differ
| Character | Story role | Relationship to Olly | Travel or gameplay role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Olivia | Mario’s principal companion | Olly’s younger sister; helps Mario stop him | Travels with Mario and may guide the player |
| Bowser | Ally against Olly | Olly’s forces turn many of Bowser’s minions into Folded Soldiers | Cooperates with Mario and Olivia; the overview does not detail a specific battle mechanic |
| Luigi | Parallel helper in the rescue effort | Searches for Peach’s Castle keys while Mario opposes Olly | Not described as part of Mario’s regular traveling group |
| Other temporary allies | Occasional companions | Specific relationships to Olly are not stated in Nintendo’s overview | Join for a time; some may help in battle |
Nintendo’s Mario Portal sums up the traveling setup as Mario journeying with Olivia and sometimes the “floppy Koopa Troop.” Mario Portal
