Path of Exile: Mirage update 3.28.0 introduced the Mirage league, a new Scion Ascendancy, Exceptional Support Gems, new skills and items, and a change that separates a map item’s tier from the Atlas area you open. The later 3.28.0e patch adjusted Mirage entry, fixed missing monster packs, and improved Atlas feedback. These notes cover only versions 3.28.0 and 3.28.0e; they do not establish the game’s newest live version as of October 2026.
How the Mirage league mechanic works
In the Mirage league, players join Varashta in a conflict involving the Afarud, a Faridun sect, and the Maraketh. The Afarud have trapped Djinn; freeing them is the purpose of each Mirage encounter.
- Choose a Wish. Before entering the Astral Realm, select one of three Wishes. A Wish modifies the Mirage and can affect its monsters and rewards.
- Enter the Mirage. The Astral Realm is an imperfect copy of the surrounding area. Fight through this altered version of the world.
- Break the Djinn’s tether. Defeat the captors and reach the tether holding the Djinn to free it.
The official 3.28.0 notes say Standard, Hardcore, and Solo Self-Found versions share the same core mechanics and items. Grinding Gear Games’ 3.28.0 patch notes describe the league and its encounter flow.
What update 3.28.0 added
Reliquarian Ascendancy for the Scion
The Scion gained the Reliquarian Ascendancy. Its notable passives borrow powers from unique items and change with each league. The 3.28.0 notes say these passives will not be available as Forbidden Flame or Forbidden Flesh outcomes.

Exceptional Support Gems and gem-corrupting coins
Exceptional Support Gems are an improved successor to Awakened Support Gems, which the notes say are being phased out. More than 40 Exceptional Support Gems can be found in the Endgame, according to GGG’s 3.28.0 notes.
The update also added three coins that corrupt a level-20 skill gem and imbue it with a random valid support effect associated with Intelligence, Strength, or Dexterity. The outcome is random, so the coin’s attribute category does not guarantee a particular support effect.

Skills, supports, Runegrafts, and collectables
The update added new skill and transfigured skill gems, including Divine Blast, Holy Hammers, Holy Strike, and Shield of Light, as well as transfigured versions of existing skills. It also introduced four new support gems. Requirements and mechanics differ across these gems, so the additions are not universally suitable for every character or build.
Other additions listed in the 3.28.0 notes include ten Runegrafts available through shipping to Kingsmarch ports, 13 new unique items, and eight new Divination Cards. The league also introduced 40 new challenges, with eight new challenges in Ruthless Mirage.

How mapping and the Atlas changed
In 3.28.0, a map item identifies a tier rather than a specific map area. The Atlas area you select in the Map Device determines which area the device opens. For example, you can use a map item of the appropriate tier and select Mesa as the area.
The Map Device defaults to the last Atlas area you ran, but you can choose a different area. In practical terms, the map item supplies the tier; your Atlas selection supplies the destination. See the official 3.28.0 patch notes for the announced mapping change.

What patch 3.28.0e changed later
Patch 3.28.0e was a follow-up, not part of the original 3.28.0 launch notes. It included changes to combat-area transitions, Mirage entry, Atlas usability, and bugs. GGG posted the follow-up on March 26, 2026; its 3.28.0e patch notes contain the full list.
Mirage entry and monster fixes
Moving for the first time after entering a Mirage now triggers a shockwave that stuns nearby enemies. GGG said the change was intended to mitigate players being immediately swarmed on entry. The patch also fixed an issue that could place Wish-added monster packs outside the Mirage zone, making them absent from the encounter, and prevented Mirages from spawning in a particular City Square room where they could not spread far enough.

Combat effects that persist between areas
Rage, Fortify, most charges, and Shrines other than Evolving Shrine now transition with the player through combat areas. The exception matters: the note does not say that Evolving Shrine transitions with the player.
Atlas and interface adjustments
Eligible Atlas nodes glow when the player hovers or holds a map item in inventory. The patch also fixed some Atlas nodes that became unhoverable after the corresponding Voidstone was unlocked, and made errors for invalid Memory Thread applications more informative.
Other 3.28.0e fixes touched skills, monsters, maps, and crashes. One interface addition lets players use an Exalted Orb while using Chaos Orbs by holding Alt. These are selected examples, not a complete list of the follow-up’s fixes.
