Rathian is a large Flying Wyvern known as the “Queen of the Land.” In Monster Hunter Now, it is associated with Fire and Poison, lives in Forest, Desert, and Volcano habitats, and is weak to Thunder and Dragon. Its venomous tail is the key hazard: severing it renders the poison ineffective, while the head is particularly vulnerable.
What is Rathian?
Rathian is a Monster Hunter creature, not a real animal. Capcom’s official Monster Hunter Now Rathian profile calls it the “Queen of the Land” and classifies it as a large Flying Wyvern. The profile describes a monster whose strong legs help it race across the ground and whose venom-laden tail helps subdue prey.
Rathian is also closely associated with Rathalos, its male counterpart. The Monster Hunter Now profile says the two have occasionally been spotted hunting together. Capcom’s 2014 retrospective described Rathian and Rathalos as a recurring pair across the franchise’s first decade and as opponents in hunters’ progression.

| Profile detail | Monster Hunter Now |

| Elements | Fire and Poison |
| Weaknesses | Thunder and Dragon |
| Habitats | Forest, Desert, Volcano |

How to hunt Rathian
Watch for the tail’s poison
The tail spikes carry potent venom. The official profile states that severing the tail renders the poison ineffective, so targeting the tail is a way to address that specific threat. The profile lists the tail as breakable only by severing it.

Use the profile’s part list as your checklist
- Head
- Back
- Left wing and right wing
- Tail, which requires severing
These are the breakable parts identified for Rathian in Monster Hunter Now, not a universal part list for every Monster Hunter title.

Rathian in other Monster Hunter contexts
Rathian’s recurring connection with Rathalos is part of its franchise identity, but the tactical information above is for Monster Hunter Now. Capcom’s 2014 article on Rathalos and Rathian looks back on their role as familiar monsters during the series’ first decade. It is historical franchise context, not a current gameplay guide for every game.
For collectors, distinguish digital content from physical merchandise. Steam’s MHW:I Monster Figure: Rathian is downloadable content released March 11, 2020: an in-game room decoration requiring Monster Hunter: World and Iceborne, not a physical figure. A retailer result also names a Rathian ecology book, but its details and current availability are not established here. The available merchandise listings do not confirm whether a physical Rathian figure is currently available.
