Where is Rathbreaker in PoE 2?
Find Rathbreaker in the combat area of the Vastiri Outskirts in Act 2. The area follows the Outskirts’ first town section, where Hyenic Raiders lead into the combat zone. How do you beat Rathbreaker?
The tactical advice below comes from an unofficial boss guide for Path of Exile 2 Early Access 0.5.4, updated 2026-08-03. Treat its timing and positioning recommendations as version-sensitive rather than as tested guarantees. Unofficial Rathbreaker guide.
Prepare to keep moving
The guide recommends adequate life and defenses, some movement speed, and enough area damage to deal with nearby Hyenas. Keep space to maneuver on the sloped arena, and avoid getting trapped against the cliff edge. Prioritize nearby adds when they obstruct movement or interrupt attacks; chasing distant Hyenas can cost you sight of the boss.

- Slash Combo: Rathbreaker makes three overhead swings, with a longer wind-up on the last. Save your dodge or sidestep for the third swing; rolling too early can leave you exposed to the finisher.
- Spear Rush: When he plants the spear and locks a line, move sideways. Avoid dodging before the line locks, when its direction may not yet be clear.
- Sword Slam: Move out of the impact area when he raises the sword overhead. Attack during the recovery after the slam.
- Off-map spear volley: Watch the ground for marked arcs and walk clear of them. The spears may come from off-map rather than directly from Rathbreaker.
Keep defenses practical
The guide describes physical damage as the main concern, advises keeping Cold covered, and presents Fire as a possible bonus after changes—not a required build switch. It gives no supported numerical damage values or resistance thresholds, so there is no source-based target to aim for.

- Clear the final swarm. Do not leave the area as soon as Rathbreaker falls; finish the remaining enemies tied to the encounter.
- Return to Vastiri Outskirts and speak with Zarka. Her conversation completes this progression step.
- Collect the reward and continue. Zarka unlocks the Ardura Caravan and awards an Uncut Skill Gem Level 5. From the caravan, Act 2 continues through Mawdun Quarry and Mawdun Mine as part of The Trail of Corruption. Act 2 progression reference.
