Unusual places and things in the landscape
1. UFO at the New Hanover shack
Find the shack north of Emerald Station and northeast of Heartland Overflow. A note inside points toward the mystery. Guides recommend visiting the rock circle on Mount Shann, then returning to the shack at night; PowerPyx specifies 2 a.m. for the return. See PC Gamer’s Easter egg guide and PowerPyx’s locations guide.

2. The giant skeleton on Mount Shann
A huge skeleton lies along a Mount Shann trail. Guides compare it to Bigfoot or Sasquatch, but that name is an interpretation; the remains themselves do not confirm a species. RDR2.org’s Easter egg guide and PC Gamer describe the find.
3. The hill house near Bacchus Station
On the way toward Bacchus Station, look for a house built into a hillside. Its shape recalls the hobbit homes in Tolkien’s stories, though that resemblance alone does not establish official intent. PC Gamer notes the location and comparison.

4. The meteor-struck cabin and crater
West of Brandywine Drop, PowerPyx lists a cabin with a macabre scene and a separate meteor impact crater nearby. They are two related points of interest, so look around the surrounding area rather than treating the cabin as the only discovery.
5. The crashed airship
PowerPyx lists a crashed flying machine as a reference to the first Red Dead Redemption. The unusual wreck is the discovery; the connection to the earlier game is the guide’s interpretation.
6. Mammoth remains in the snow
Search the snowy regions for prehistoric mammoth remains. PowerPyx includes them among the game’s secrets; the discovery is a fixed environmental landmark rather than a timed encounter.
7. A hunter frozen near Deadboot Creek
West of Deadboot Creek, PowerPyx places a hunter frozen in the cold. The remains make this a small environmental story rather than a mission or collectible chain.

8. The woman in a barrel at Donner Falls
At the foot of Donner Falls, near Bacchus Bridge, RDR2.org describes a corpse inside a barrel. The guide suggests possible connections to Annie Edson Taylor, who went over Niagara Falls in a barrel, and to The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug; these are proposed parallels, not confirmed explanations.

Eerie encounters and unsettling discoveries
9. The Saint Denis vampire
PowerPyx says to interact with five markings around Saint Denis to trigger the vampire encounter. This one requires finding clues around the city first, so it is less direct than simply reaching a landmark.
10. The swamp ghost
A ghost encounter may trigger in the swamp around 2 a.m., according to PowerPyx. Treat the timing as guide-reported advice rather than a guarantee that the event will appear on every visit.
11. The man who calls himself the Devil
PowerPyx describes a man in a cave who says he is the Devil. Returning over several days changes his dialogue, making repeat visits part of the discovery.

A remote shack contains a cauldron filled with a strange liquid, according to PowerPyx. The guide does not establish further effects, so the unusual object is the secret to seek out.
13. The experimental creature
Inside an abandoned house, PowerPyx describes a strange creature associated with an experiment. The unsettling discovery is in the building; the guide does not provide evidence for a more specific backstory.

14. Voices in Roanoke Valley
PC Gamer reports disembodied voices in the valley late at night and connects the effect to the story of the Roanoke colony. Listen rather than search for a visible character—the voices are the point of the encounter.
15. Night Folk in the swamps
PC Gamer describes the Night Folk as a return of characters from Undead Nightmare, the first game’s horror-themed expansion. Their appearance is an encounter, not just a hidden object; the franchise connection is part of what makes it notable.

17. The giant snake near Lemoyne
Look in the forest near Lemoyne for a large snake hanging from a tree. PC Gamer describes the image as a Jungle Book-style reference, and PowerPyx also lists the giant snake. The resemblance is clear; it is not proof of a stated developer explanation.
18. The manbearpig display near Van Horn
PC Gamer places a man-, bear- and pig-like creature chained inside a shack near Van Horn. The guide identifies the display as a reference to South Park.
19. Three chained prisoners by the railroad
PC Gamer describes a chance encounter near railroad tracks involving three chained prisoners. The scene resembles a sequence from O Brother, Where Art Thou?; frame it as a visual parallel rather than a confirmed adaptation.

How to choose what to hunt for first
The most convenient target depends on whether you prefer a fixed landmark, a clue trail or an event with timing. This guide’s list mixes all three, and some discoveries may depend on where you are in the story or on encounter conditions.
- For a clue-led mystery: choose the Saint Denis vampire, which PowerPyx ties to five markings.
- For a timed visit: try the New Hanover UFO sequence or the swamp ghost; both guides describe late-night conditions, and PowerPyx gives 2 a.m. for the UFO return.
- For a straightforward landmark: seek the Mount Shann skeleton, the frozen hunter or the Donner Falls barrel.
- For a chance encounter: the three chained prisoners are described by PC Gamer as a chance event, so they may take more patience than a fixed-location find.
For broader map-based exploration, the Piggyback Red Dead Redemption 2 Complete Official Guide is described as including annotated maps, collectibles, hidden landmarks and mission-availability details. Confirm the edition and current availability before purchasing.
