Recluse’s Night Shard comes from the Night-Swallowed Golden Hippopotamus during her first Remembrance Quest. It is a quest objective, not a confirmed fixed pickup on Limveld’s map. Once you have it, show the shard to the Iron Menial to progress the quest.
How to get the Night Shard
- Start Recluse’s first Remembrance Quest.
- During the quest, defeat the Night-Swallowed Golden Hippopotamus. The item reference names this enemy as the Night Shard’s drop source.
- After obtaining the shard, take it to the Iron Menial and show it as proof of Recluse’s cooperation.
The item reference and quest walkthrough are secondary sources; neither provides an official, verified map coordinate for the encounter. Bandai Namco’s gameplay guide says expedition loot, drops, enemies, and bosses shift between sessions, but does not describe this specific quest or establish the Hippopotamus’s spawn rules. Follow the Remembrance objective rather than searching for a universal Limveld location.

What happens after you show it to the Iron Menial?
The reported next step is presenting the Night Shard to the Iron Menial. A Game8 quest guide also says the shard can later be taken back, but the available details do not establish when or why that option appears.
Why is this tied to Recluse’s Remembrance?
The Night Shard is a key item acquired through Recluse’s first Remembrance Quest, rather than a general world item with a confirmed permanent location. Bandai Namco describes Recluse as a Nightfarer skilled in cursed magic; that character description provides context, but does not add another acquisition method for the shard.
