What is Pure Impulse Straghess?
Pure Impulse Straghess is the transformed, later form of Traitorous Straghess, also called the Dreglord. The first health bar empties before the transformation, so prepare for a second phase rather than treating the change as a new encounter. The Eldenpedia community-wiki entry identifies Pure Impulse as phase two; the page itself was not accessible for full inspection, so this identification is corroborated by the guide below.
The encounter is part of The Forsaken Hollows expansion. You need the expansion to access it.
How to unlock the Dreglord expedition
HowToPlayHub’s September 5, 2026 guide reports the following progression requirements. In-game requirements can change with patches, so check the expedition menu if your progression differs.

- Defeat Gladius in the base game.
- Complete the introduction that unlocks Scholar and Undertaker.
- Defeat another base-game Nightlord to make the Balancers selectable.
- Clear the Balancers expedition to unlock the Dreglord expedition.

Which damage types are effective against Dreglord?
Shacknews reports that Holy, Fire, Slash, and Pierce damage are favorable against both forms. Its percentages come from a community-assembled Nightlord weakness chart attributed to community testing and likely datamining; they are not official FromSoftware figures.

How to handle the first phase: Traitorous Straghess
The first form uses staff swings, thrown Rot balls, delayed Rot mounds, and summoned enemies. The key is to avoid losing attack opportunities while reacting to hazards.

- Staff swings: Read the boss’s body lean to anticipate the swing, then evade rather than trying to trade hits.
- Thrown Rot and delayed mounds: Move clear of the impact area, including after the initial attack; the mounds can remain a hazard after appearing.
- Summoned enemies: The guide recommends keeping pressure on Straghess instead of spending time clearing every add. Avoid letting them box you in, but do not let them pull your focus from the boss unnecessarily.
- Poise opportunities: Charged heavy attacks are recommended for building poise pressure and opening a critical attack opportunity.
What changes in the Pure Impulse phase?
After transforming, Straghess becomes faster and more aerial. The later phase adds movement and Rot hazards to patterns familiar from the first form, making positioning especially important.
- Jumping strikes: The boss can leap and create a Rot explosion on landing. Avoid the landing zone and look for a punish after it touches down.
- Straight-line charges: Sidestep the charge rather than retreating directly along its path.
- Pillar dives: During dive sequences around summoned pillars, stay away from the structures and the spaces where the boss is moving through them.
- Rot projectiles: Projectiles can appear alongside the earlier combo patterns, so keep an escape route instead of committing to a long attack string.
- Large delayed Rot mound: The second phase’s larger mound makes it important to leave the hazard area and avoid returning before it is safe.
How should you prepare for Scarlet Rot?
Several attacks create Rot hazards, so the HowToPlayHub guide recommends bringing Preserving Boluses and a suitable Flask of Wondrous Physick tear. It also advises saving healing resources for the second form. These are guide recommendations rather than independently verified requirements: treat them as preparation options, not mandatory equipment.
