Bot-heavy matches in PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS on PC can be a symptom of a thin or fragmented matchmaking pool—not necessarily a penalty tied to your account. PUBG said that, in regions with map selection including NA and EU, maps drawing fewer selections had fewer players per match, longer waits, and a higher proportion of bots. In August 2026, it cut PC map choices from five to three to concentrate players. That was an intended fix, not a published measurement proving bot rates fell afterward.
Why PUBG says some PC lobbies have more bots
When PUBG introduced map selection in NA, SA, EU, and RU in May 2026, it created a way for players to choose maps but also divided players among more queues. PUBG later reported that maps receiving fewer selections had fewer players per match, longer matchmaking times, and a higher proportion of bots. Its map-selection announcement explains the underlying trade-off: each match needs a sufficiently large pool of players, while map choice can split that pool.
This is the developer’s explanation for the pattern it observed. It does not establish why any one player’s match contained bots, or that every NA or EU queue is affected equally.
What changed in August 2026
On August 11, 2026, PUBG announced that it would reduce PC map-selection slots from five to three: one fixed slot and two rotating slots. The stated goal was to concentrate players across fewer maps. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Team wrote: “By concentrating the player population across fewer maps, we expect to increase the number of players per match while reducing both matchmaking times and the proportion of bots.” Read the map-selection adjustment announcement.

The wording describes an expected outcome. PUBG did not publish a numeric bot percentage or before-and-after results for NA or EU, so the announcement alone cannot confirm how much bot participation changed after the adjustment.
Why level, skill, or a queue setting cannot guarantee a human-only match
PUBG’s Normal Match matchmaking overview lists several considerations, including platform, player count, time to match, ping, map service, party type and perspective, and skill. That overview dates from 2024 and does not disclose an individual bot-count formula. It therefore does not support claims that reaching a particular level, changing one setting, or playing at a particular hour guarantees a lobby of human players.

A player asking “When will the bot lobbies end?” may also be reacting to a personal experience, not a measurable trend. For example, one Reddit post describes a level-63 player who had started about two weeks earlier. That account is anecdotal; it cannot show how common bot-heavy matches are or identify the cause of a particular lobby.

- Note the selected map and whether it was one of the less-selected options; PUBG identified lower selection as a factor associated with fewer players and more bots.
- Keep mode and perspective consistent when comparing matches, since PUBG lists party type and perspective among matchmaking considerations.
- Record region and queue wait alongside your impression of bot participation. A longer wait and a lower player count are part of the pattern PUBG described, but neither proves a specific bot share.
- Look for an official post-change measurement before treating the August adjustment as a confirmed reduction in bots. The published announcement states the aim, not measured results.
These details help describe what happened, but they cannot reveal the hidden bot-count formula or establish a regional ranking. PUBG has not published numeric NA/EU bot rates in the cited material.
