Nobody Wants to Die is a single-player detective story set in an alternate-future New York City in 2329. Its noir-inspired visual direction meets a mystery shaped by technology that can preserve consciousness or move it between bodies, making the game’s central hook as much about immortality as investigation.

What is Nobody Wants to Die about?

The official Steam listing describes an alternate-future New York in 2329, where technology lets people store consciousness in memory banks or transfer it to other bodies. The detective story unfolds against a society changed by that possibility, raising questions about immortality and transhumanism.

The premise gives the investigation a speculative edge: questions of identity and continued life sit alongside the familiar work of a detective story. The Xbox Store listing likewise frames the game as a narrative detective experience concerned with these themes.

Is Nobody Wants to Die a detective game?

Yes. It is presented as a single-player, narrative-led detective story—not a multiplayer detective simulator. The mystery is the way into its larger ideas about consciousness, bodies, and life extension; official descriptions establish that framing without specifying investigation mechanics or the degree of player choice.

Why does it look like future-noir?

The future-noir identity comes from the combination of two stated creative ingredients: noir landscapes and influences, and imagery of a futuristic New York. In an Xbox Wire feature, the developers’ art direction is described in those terms, with Unreal Engine 5 identified as the technology used to create the game.

That makes “future-noir” a useful description of the concept: a recognizable noir visual vocabulary placed in a speculative city, rather than simply a conventional detective story with a futuristic setting. This is the stated direction of the game, not a claim based on hands-on play.
