Rainbow Six Siege X is not a standalone sequel. Ubisoft launched it on June 10, 2025 as a substantial free update to the existing Rainbow Six Siege. Existing owners kept their content and progression; new players could enter through a Free Access tier. The “major evolution” label reflects changes to access, modes and core presentation—not a separate game that replaces Siege.
What Ubisoft meant by “major evolution”
Ubisoft first described Siege X as “the next evolution of Rainbow Six Siege” at its Siege X Showcase. Its announcement outlined a new 6v6 mode, visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades, revamped player protection and free access. Those were the announced areas of work; the phrase itself does not establish that every change produced a measurable improvement for every player.
At launch, Ubisoft called Siege X an update for existing owners and said their content and progression carried over. That makes “major evolution” a description of the scale and direction of the update, not evidence of a standalone sequel.
What changed with Siege X?
Dual Front added a 6v6 objective mode
Dual Front is a 6v6 mode played on the District map. Ubisoft described a two-sided objective flow: each team attacks the enemy’s sectors while defending its own. The reveal specified a curated pool of 35 Operators, with that roster set to rotate twice per season.

Core systems and presentation were part of the announced scope
The reveal also named visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades and revamped player protection. These describe the categories Ubisoft said it was changing; they are not a guarantee of a particular performance result or a universal player-experience outcome.
Access was broadened, with some features still paid
At launch, Free Access offered Quick Match, Unranked and Dual Front, plus a selection of Operators. Ubisoft said Ranked, Siege Cup, additional Operators and cosmetics required payment to unlock. These are the terms in Ubisoft’s launch announcement, not a confirmation that current access or store terms remain unchanged.

What did existing players keep?
Existing Siege owners received the Siege X update free, and Ubisoft said their existing content and progression carried over. In practical terms, owners did not have to start over or buy a separate sequel to continue with their account and accumulated progress.
Which platforms support Siege X and Dual Front?
Ubisoft’s launch announcement listed Siege X for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC through Ubisoft Connect, Steam and Epic Games. Dual Front has a narrower platform list: Ubisoft specified current-generation consoles and PC, and its launch specifications exclude PS4 and Xbox One.

What is the latest status?
Ubisoft’s roadmap page, last updated September 23, 2026, marks Y11S3 Operation Split Fire as the latest release and lists Operation Daybreak—the Siege X launch—as released on June 10, 2025. The roadmap warns that target dates can change, so its season schedule should be treated as a dated snapshot rather than a guarantee of future timing.
