If Roblox chat is missing, first check which feature you mean: text Experience Chat, direct chat, or Voice Chat. Roblox requires an account age check for Communication features, and a particular experience may not support Roblox’s built-in chat. Work through the account and experience checks below before trying device fixes.
First, identify which chat is missing
Roblox’s chat features have different controls and availability rules, so a fix for one may not apply to another.
- Text Experience Chat: Chat used inside a Roblox experience. The / key or the on-screen chat icon opens it only when that experience has Roblox Experience Chat enabled. Roblox’s Experience Chat guide explains how it works.
- Direct chat: Communication between users outside an experience. Its availability is also subject to Roblox’s account and Communication controls. See Roblox’s chat guidance.
- Voice Chat: A separate feature with its own age, region, and experience requirements. Check the Voice Chat section below rather than assuming the text-chat setting controls it.
Complete the required age check
Roblox says users must successfully complete an age check to access Communication features. Chat settings cannot be enabled until the check is complete. Applicable parental-consent requirements and regional restrictions may also affect access. Start with Roblox’s current instructions in How to chat on Roblox, and make sure you are signed in to the account you intend to use.
Check the Experience Chat setting
If you manage your own account
- Open Settings.
- Go to Privacy & content restrictions.
- Open Communication.
- Check Experience chat and turn it on if it is available to your account.
These are Roblox’s published settings labels; availability may still depend on the age check and applicable restrictions. See Experience Chat.

- Each gift card grants a free virtual item upon redemption.
If a parent manages the account
Ask the parent to review Settings → Parental Controls → Settings You Manage → Communication → Experience chat. A child account’s communication options may be controlled there. Roblox describes these parent controls in its Parental Controls Overview.
Find out whether the problem is limited to one experience
Try opening chat in another experience. If chat is missing in only one, the experience may not have Roblox Experience Chat enabled; creators control whether their experience uses it. Roblox also notes that creators can build a separate chat system, which may not follow Roblox’s standard chat settings. If chat is missing across experiences, focus on the account age check and Communication controls instead.

Check Voice Chat separately
Roblox Voice Chat is not the same as text chat. Roblox’s current guidance says access requires an eligible user to be 13 or older and age checked; the experience must support Voice Chat, and availability depends on region. Phone verification is not a valid way to gain access under the guidance described in Roblox’s Voice Chat instructions. If the Voice Chat option is missing, check those conditions rather than changing the Experience Chat setting.

If the relevant age check, settings, and experience support all appear to be in order but chat still does not work, contact Roblox Support. Include the account context, the exact feature that is missing, the affected experience or experiences, the platform you are using, and any message Roblox displays. These details help support understand what you are seeing; they do not establish a particular cause in advance.
