To avoid scams in Roblox Adopt Me, keep every trade inside the game’s official Trade feature, check the full offer before confirming, and never share your password or follow a stranger to an outside site. Offers of free Robux or valuable items, requests to go first, promises to pay later, and claims of special staff status are warning signs. If a scam occurs, report the trade through the in-game Trade License and report the user to Roblox; neither route guarantees that lost items will be restored.
What counts as an Adopt Me scam?
A scam is an attempt to trick a player into surrendering pets, items, Robux, or account access without receiving what was promised. Some scams happen through an ordinary-looking trade; others rely on impersonation, fake giveaways, password requests, or links that lead away from Roblox.
Roblox warns players about offers of free Robux, Premium memberships, codes, tricks, or valuable items; people falsely claiming to be staff or admins; requests for passwords; suspicious user-shared links that take players off Roblox; and unofficial trades or sales. If you encounter one of these red flags, disengage and report the user. Roblox’s safety guidance covers these platform-wide risks.
Unsupported trades and promises
Do not hand over a pet or item first in exchange for a promise of later payment, or agree to complete an exchange somewhere outside Adopt Me’s supported trade flow. Roblox says deals made outside its official Trade and Sell features are not protected; if another player backs out, Roblox cannot recover the items or Robux for you. Keep the whole exchange in the official feature rather than relying on a stranger’s word.

Adopt Me’s November 5, 2020 trade update also warned about cross trades and Robux trades. That update is historical, so check the current game and platform terms for present-day rules rather than assuming its stated consequences have not changed.
Impersonation and false trust
A player may claim to be your friend, an administrator, a developer, or an influencer to make you feel safe. Adopt Me’s Trading Safety guidance describes a Verified Friend marker for players who are on your Roblox friends list, as well as distinct indicators for Uplift staff and official influencers. Use the markers in the trade interface as described by the guidance; a person’s claim, display name, or message alone does not establish who they are.
How to avoid getting scammed
Use only the supported trade flow
- Keep item exchanges inside Adopt Me’s official Trade feature. Decline trades that require going first, paying later, moving to another site, or trusting someone to complete a separate deal.
- Read every item and amount in the trade before confirming. If the offer changes or you see an unfair-trade warning, stop and reconsider rather than rushing through the confirmation.
- Roblox offers a Trade Quality Filter that can hide offers it judges low quality, but Roblox says the filter cannot catch every bad deal. Treat it as an extra aid, not a guarantee that an offer is safe.
Protect your Roblox account
- Never share your password, even with someone claiming to be a friend, staff member, or support agent.
- Do not enter login details after following a user-shared giveaway or free-item link. Sign in only through the official Roblox website or the login screen in the official app.
- Enable 2-Step Verification or a passkey in your Roblox account settings. These safeguards reduce account-takeover risk, but they do not make an unsafe trade safe.
Pause when you are unsure
If a player is new to trading or uncertain about an offer, pause and ask a parent or trusted person to help assess it. Adopt Me’s Trading Safety guidance describes a Spectate Trade option that lets another person watch a trade; check the current in-game interface to see whether and how that option is available before relying on it.

What to do if you were scammed
Report the trade in Adopt Me
- Open the Trade License in Adopt Me and use its reporting flow to report the scam trade.
- Report the other user through Roblox’s reporting tools where appropriate.
- Do not assume that a report will result in a pet or item being returned. Adopt Me Support says it does not provide assistance for hacks or scams and directs players to report scam trades in the Trade License.
Adopt Me’s 2020 trade update said the game does not return pets players trade away. The current support guidance likewise does not promise scam recovery, so report the incident without expecting an item restoration.

- Turn on 2-Step Verification or a passkey if you have not already done so, and report suspicious account activity through Roblox.
- Do not give anyone your password to “investigate” or recover the account. Official guidance supports using Roblox’s channels, but it does not guarantee a particular recovery outcome.
What trade safeguards can and cannot do
Adopt Me’s November 5, 2020 update described a two-stage trade confirmation and an unfair-trade warning intended to give players another chance to review an exchange. Roblox also describes its Trade Quality Filter as a way to hide offers it considers low quality. These measures can prompt a second look, but they cannot identify every dishonest player or make an unsupported deal protected. Check the current game interface for the safeguards available to you, and still review the offer yourself.
As Adopt Me’s 2020 update cautioned, trading improvements do not mean scams have disappeared. The dependable routine is to stay inside the supported trade flow, protect account credentials, pause over suspicious offers, and use the official reporting routes when needed.
