BOOM Tech is EA’s name for a set of FieldSENSE gameplay upgrades in Madden NFL 25—not a separate mode. EA says it changes how tackles resolve, how ball carriers react and recover after contact, and how defenders use the reworked Hit Stick. Those features are available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but not PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
EA’s descriptions explain the intended design, not independently verified results. The distinctions below therefore describe what EA says the systems do, rather than claiming that every collision behaves a particular way in play.

What is BOOM Tech in Madden NFL 25?
EA describes BOOM Tech as upgrades to Madden’s FieldSENSE gameplay foundation, combining physics tracking, character balancing, and physics-driven ragdoll animation. It is a group of gameplay systems, not a standalone mode. EA’s account centers on three features: physics-based tackles, ball-carrier balance and recovery, and Reloaded Hit Stick. EA’s technical article and its June 2024 launch announcement present these as design changes intended to make outcomes more responsive to the physical interaction.
How does BOOM Tech change tackles?
EA describes a tackle as a sequence of three stages rather than one fixed animation: pre-impact, moment of impact, and tackle resolution.
#1 Best Overall
- Play like a pro in Madden NFL 24 on PlayStation 4.
- Lead your team to a Super Bowl victory in Franchise.
- Build a powerhouse Madden Ultimate Team, and more!
- Pre-impact: N-Teract selects a starting animation using player position, movement, and nearby players.
- Moment of impact: Driven Ragdoll controls the character through the maneuver, and a physics interaction occurs at the collision.
- Tackle resolution: PTM can select a fall, stumble, recovery, or another animation based on the physics result. EA says this animation selection can happen multiple times during an interaction.
EA says its data-driven system considers timing, momentum, weight, speed, strength, and player ratings in one-on-one ball-carrier impacts. The affected interactions it names include hit sticks, cut sticks, trucks, stiff-arms, and dives. EA presents the system as a way to vary outcomes and preserve momentum instead of relying on a predetermined resolution; it does not publish an independent measurement of how often outcomes change.
Can a ball carrier stumble and recover?
That is one of the outcomes EA says the balance-and-recovery system is designed to allow: a runner can absorb a hit, stumble, and regain balance or continue moving. EA says the result depends on collision intensity and the ratings of the players involved. It does not mean a runner will always break a tackle or recover; the system is described as producing different possible responses to contact.

- Released in 2013 for the XBOX 360 to celebrate the 25th year of the Madden football video game franchise.
- Not compatible with XBOX One or XBox Series S/X.
How does Reloaded Hit Stick work?
EA describes Reloaded Hit Stick as timing-based and sensitive to the defender’s approach. Timing, angle of approach, accuracy, and player ratings all affect the result, according to EA. In practical terms, the mechanic is presented as a physical interaction shaped by when and how the defender arrives, not as a guaranteed outcome from attempting a hit stick.
Is BOOM Tech on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. EA says the BOOM Tech and associated FieldSENSE features described for Madden NFL 25 are available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and unavailable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Madden NFL 25 launched worldwide on August 16, 2024, but platform editions differ, so the feature claims should not be applied to the PS4 or Xbox One versions. EA’s product page also lists the release date and platform information.

What is established—and what is not
EA’s August 21, 2024 technical explanation and June 14, 2024 announcement describe the systems and intended behavior, but they are vendor statements rather than independent testing. They do not establish a success rate, animation count, or measured improvement, and do not show that every tackle or Hit Stick attempt will produce a distinct or more realistic result. The defensible takeaway is that EA says Madden NFL 25 uses physics-informed factors to select among tackle and ball-carrier responses, on supported platforms.
