What relic effects do
Relic effects range from stat increases to effects triggered by an action. Some can alter the elemental skill of a starting weapon or add a status ailment, so they can change how a build plays rather than simply raise a number. The official ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN gameplay guide describes the range of effects and notes that some are character- or ability-specific.

How many effects can a relic have?
The count depends on the relic type described in Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe’s Advanced Tips for ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN, published June 2, 2025.

Relics also vary in rarity and color. Color is chiefly relevant to which vessels or chalices can accept a relic; check the intended vessel’s compatibility rather than assuming any relic can be placed in any slot.

Where to equip relics
Use the Relic Rite menu at Roundtable Hold to equip relics on a character’s designated vessels. Their effects take effect at the beginning of the expedition. The relic remains yours when you return; equipping it does not consume it.
How to choose effects for a Nightfarer
There is no single best effect established by the official guidance. Judge each relic against the character and playstyle you intend to use, not just the number of effects printed on it.
- Character fit: Check whether an effect is general-purpose or restricted to a particular Nightfarer, weapon, or ability.
- What it changes: Decide whether you want a passive stat benefit, an action-triggered effect, an elemental change, or a way to apply a status ailment.
- Configuration: Compare the relic’s type and effect count with the particular effects you want; more listed effects do not automatically mean a better fit.
- Compatibility: Confirm that its color works with the vessel or chalice where you plan to equip it.
Bandai Namco’s advanced guide emphasizes that relics are not simply stat boosts and that customization choices shape a build. The official guides do not provide a complete current effect catalog or establish a universal rule for whether every relic effect stacks. Do not infer relic stacking from the basic guide’s separate statement about weapon passive effects.

How to get relics
Expedition returns are one source: the advanced guide associates stronger expedition performance with receiving more relics and better chances of a Grand relic, without giving drop odds. It also identifies these routes:
- Buy a Scenic Flatstone at the Small Jar Bazaar with Murk; it yields a random relic.
- Complete a Nightfarer’s Journal Remembrance.
- Defeat a Nightlord.
Drop rates and the precise effect pool are not specified in these guides, so treat the routes as ways to obtain relics, not guarantees of a particular type or effect.
