No official confirmation says Resident Evil Requiem will be Leon Kennedy’s last mainline game. Capcom calls Requiem the ninth main installment, and director Koshi Nakanishi has left open the possibility of bringing Leon back. That is not a promise of another mainline appearance, so the claim remains unconfirmed.
Is Requiem Leon’s last mainline Resident Evil game?
The available official statements do not establish that Requiem is Leon’s final mainline game. Capcom identifies it as the series’ ninth main installment, but does not describe it as the final one. Nor does the director’s comment about Leon returning settle whether a future appearance would be in a numbered entry, a remake, or another kind of project.

The original source and evidence behind the reported claim have not been verified. Without a traceable statement from Capcom or the people making the game, it should be treated as an unconfirmed report—not as a confirmed endpoint for Leon’s story.
What is Leon’s role in Resident Evil Requiem?
Requiem features Leon S. Kennedy alongside FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft. PlayStation describes Grace’s sections as survival horror and Leon’s as action-oriented. Capcom lists the game as the ninth main installment, released February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. PlayStation’s game page and Capcom’s March 4, 2026 announcement provide the platform and series context.

Director Koshi Nakanishi told PlayStation Blog that Leon’s appearance in Requiem is his first return to a mainline entry since Resident Evil 6, and that exploring Leon’s character development is a central theme. Nakanishi also said the game was designed to welcome players who have not played earlier entries. That makes Requiem a significant chapter for Leon, but neither a character-focused story nor a gap between mainline appearances proves that it is his last.
Will Leon be in another Resident Evil game?
Nakanishi has not ruled out using Leon again. In an interview with Eurogamer, quoted by PC Gamer, the director said: “And who knows, we could bring him back when he’s 70, and I’m sure he’ll still be a great character.” PC Gamer’s report records the remark.

It is an expression of possibility, not an announcement. Nakanishi did not confirm a sequel, a release window, or that Leon would lead another mainline game. The distinction matters: a future appearance could take many forms, and none has been confirmed by that comment.

In September 2026, Capcom described the series as having two tracks: numbered entries continue the ongoing story, while remakes revisit the past. That framing does not announce Requiem as the last numbered or mainline entry, and it does not say what role Leon will have in future projects. Capcom’s series framing is useful context, not a forecast of Leon’s future.

Capcom reported that Requiem had sold more than 5 million units in its March 4, 2026 announcement, and that the franchise had sold more than 183 million cumulative units as of December 31, 2025. Those figures show the scale of the series; they do not reveal whether or when Capcom plans to use Leon again.
Quick Recap
What can be said with confidence
- Requiem is Resident Evil’s ninth main installment and includes Leon alongside Grace Ashcroft.
- Leon’s role centers on character development, and his Requiem appearance is his first in a mainline entry since Resident Evil 6, according to Nakanishi.
- The director has left open the possibility of bringing Leon back, but has not promised another game or a mainline role.
- The claim that Requiem is Leon’s last mainline game remains unconfirmed; it should not be broadened into a claim that Requiem is his last appearance of any kind.
