Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is best understood as a refreshed version of the 2012 zombie-action game, not a new chapter: its story remains unchanged, while combat, presentation options, and extra content have been updated. Whether that makes it a fun return depends on how well the original’s comic-horror premise suits you, but RePOP gives returning players several tangible reasons to revisit Juliet Starling’s zombie-filled high school.
What is Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP?
Dragami Games describes RePOP as a remake of the 2012 game that keeps its story intact while focusing on quality-of-life improvements and additional gameplay content. The premise is the same: zombie hunter Juliet Starling faces an outbreak at her high school, with her boyfriend caught up in the crisis. What has changed from the original?
Two visual modes
Players can select Original Mode or RePOP Mode. RePOP Mode uses colorful pop-art damage effects, making it a presentation choice rather than a story variant. If you want the updated effects, choose RePOP; if you prefer the original damage presentation, select Original Mode. (Official RePOP features page; Dragami Games announcement)
Faster, more responsive combat
Dragami lists improvements to camera response and combo-input timing, faster attacks as hits chain, and increased movement speed. The Chainsaw Blaster gains auto-lock and auto-fire options, more ammunition, and combo actions available from the start. Nick Roulette actions were also adjusted. A rebalanced minigame and streamer option
Zombie Baseball, which Dragami says many players found difficult in the original, was rebalanced. Streamer Mode replaces the shop’s “Lollipop” song with an original track; the official feature description does not establish that all licensed music is removed. (Official RePOP features page)
How much extra content is included?
The launch announcement lists new chainsaws, 30 costumes, four new hair colors, an expanded Juliet’s Room, and Time Attack with rankings. Dragami’s advertised total of 750 outfit combinations is a combinatorial count based on 30 costumes, four new hair colors, and four chainsaws; it does not mean there are 750 distinct costumes. Nightmare Mode
Added in April 2025, Nightmare Mode unlocks after a happy ending in either Original Mode or RePOP Mode. It sends Juliet through a stage-based dream challenge featuring named zombies, stronger enemies, and altered “Voices of Darkness” enemies. Collectible upgrades improve abilities such as attacks, movement, chainsaw use, and the blaster. Some earned effects can carry into other modes and be toggled, with exceptions. Switch 2 availability
Dragami’s Japanese announcement on January 9, 2026 planned a Switch 2 packaged and download release for March 26, 2026, with 60 fps in handheld and docked play and a Switch 2-exclusive gun-shooting mode. However, the publisher’s news index also records a postponement notice dated November 14, 2025 and a later release-related update dated September 16, 2026. The announced plan and specifications do not by themselves confirm current availability, so check the live store listing for your region before buying. RePOP’s case rests on refinement and added replay options, not a rewritten story. The unchanged premise will appeal most to players who want to return to Juliet’s original adventure; the revised combat flow, selectable damage presentation, rebalanced Zombie Baseball, Time Attack, and post-launch Nightmare Mode give that return more than a simple re-release. Players seeking a new narrative or a radically different game should not mistake these additions for one.

Dragami reported that RePOP had sold over 0.4 million copies in a June 12, 2026 announcement. That is the publisher’s milestone, not an independently audited sales figure or a measure of critical reception. (Dragami Games news index)
