You play as a quarterback. The game includes a career mode, head-to-head multiplayer and multiplayer free play. Free play also offers drills, virtual catch, accuracy challenges and trick shots. The store descriptions list weather, sideline interactions, wristband-based play-calling controls, stamina, locker rooms, updated movement and passing, and a Coach’s Confidence feature.
How do the gameplay modes and controls work?
Quarterback play
The central activity is taking snaps and making plays as a quarterback. Play-calling uses a wristband interface, and the listed mechanics include passing and movement improvements and stamina. The storefront descriptions establish these features, but they do not provide enough detail to judge passing accuracy, defensive AI, or how the mechanics feel in practice.

Career and free play
Career mode is described as updated from the previous game. Free play is the lower-commitment option: it includes drills, catch, accuracy tasks and trick-shot challenges. The listings do not specify how much of the career is playable offline or how progression works, so check the in-game or current store details if those points matter to you.
Multiplayer—and the defense question
Steam lists head-to-head multiplayer and multiplayer free play. The available official descriptions do not establish whether players can control a defense in a full game, or whether defensive play is available as a distinct mode. Do not treat the presence of head-to-head multiplayer as proof of a playable defense.

PlayStation warns that VR may cause motion sickness and says PS VR2 is not for children under 12. The PC listing specifies requirements but does not establish that a particular current headset model is compatible; confirm compatibility for your setup before buying.
Does NFL PRO ERA II run on Meta Quest?
Do not assume it does based on the original NFL PRO ERA. Meta’s September 15, 2022 announcement says the original game launched on Meta Quest 2, but that is not a compatibility statement for NFL PRO ERA II. The sources cited here do not establish current Quest support for II.

How well has it been received?
The storefront scores are mixed, and they measure different groups of players on different scales:
- Steam: “Mixed,” with 55% positive from 86 user reviews on the Steam listing.
- US PlayStation Store: 2.95 out of 5 from about 2.4K ratings on the US listing.
These are player storefront ratings, not professional critic scores, and the displayed totals can change. No professional review or independent critic score is established by the available sources. Is NFL PRO ERA II still the edition to buy?
That depends on the platform and the edition currently offered. On August 29, 2024, the NFL announced a next NFL PRO ERA edition moving toward a live-service model, with linebacker play, updated rosters, cosmetics and additional content. The announcement said owners of either of the first two versions would receive an update granting access to specified features and modes. It also announced prices of $19.99 for current players and $39.99 for new players at that time; those were announcement-era terms, not verified current store prices or upgrade conditions. When comparing editions, look at the exact platform listing and confirm the headset requirement, included modes, roster/content state, multiplayer availability and upgrade terms.
