A. Dylan Jadeja is Riot Games’ CEO. Riot announced in May 2023 that he would succeed Nicolo Laurent, and Jadeja’s official biography dates his start in the role to July 2023. Riot confirmed in September that the transition period was complete. The change was a planned succession, not an outside hire.
Who is Riot Games’ CEO?
Riot Games names A. Dylan Jadeja as its CEO on its official leadership page. He had been a senior executive at Riot for years before taking the top role: the company says he joined as chief financial officer in 2011, added chief operating officer duties in 2014, became president in 2017, and began overseeing enterprise operations in 2022. His appointment followed an internal succession process rather than an external recruitment.
When did Jadeja become CEO?
The dates refer to separate stages of the handoff. Riot announced the planned succession in May, Jadeja’s biography says he began as CEO in July, and Riot publicly confirmed the transition was complete in September.
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| May 11, 2023 | Riot announced that Jadeja, then global president, would succeed Laurent later that year. Riot’s announcement said Laurent had held leadership roles at the company for 14 years, including six years as CEO. |
| July 2023 | Jadeja’s official biography dates his formal start as CEO to July. |
| September 22, 2023 | Riot said the transition period had ended and Jadeja had fully stepped into the role in a public update. |
Why did Nicolo Laurent leave?
In Riot’s May 2023 announcement, Laurent said he planned to step away from the CEO role to focus on his family and move back to France. Riot said he would remain with the company as an advisor. Those are the reasons and next steps Laurent and Riot stated at the time.

How did Riot choose Jadeja?
Riot said its succession process lasted about three years and considered both internal and external candidates. The company’s May announcement said Jadeja was the leading choice for the board, advisors, founders, search firm, and Laurent. Riot co-founder Brandon Beck endorsed the appointment, writing, “The future of Riot is in great hands.”
Jadeja’s progression through finance, operations, and the presidency gave him extensive experience inside the company before he became CEO. That background explains why Riot described the change as a succession rather than a sudden leadership replacement.
What other leadership changes and company news followed?
Marc Merrill became Chief Product Officer
On November 29, 2023, Riot announced that co-founder Marc Merrill would become chief product officer, reporting to Jadeja. Riot said Merrill would oversee product ecosystems across games, esports, and entertainment. This was a later executive appointment, separate from Jadeja’s CEO handoff.
Riot announced planned job cuts and a strategic refocus
In a message to employees dated January 22, 2024, Jadeja said Riot planned to eliminate about 530 roles globally, which the company described as around 11% of its workforce. He framed the move as part of changing the company’s bets, creating focus, and moving toward sustainability. Those figures and rationale are Riot’s statements from that date, not details of the 2023 succession.
Who is on Riot’s leadership team?
Riot’s leadership page lists Jadeja as CEO, Merrill as co-founder, co-chairman, and chief product officer, Brandon Beck as co-founder and co-chairman, Hoby Darling as president, and John Needham as president of publishing and esports. It also lists leaders responsible for people, finance, legal affairs, and strategy. Executive titles can change, so the live roster is the best source for the current lineup.
